ah, the student becomes the master... i'm betting 35-36 too.......too much cut off on the sides to be the later one....the later ones look more square than just having the sides flat
I'm pretty sure Bruce just spoke to soon when he saw the square mounting plate. Measure the distance between the upper backing plate bolt holes. That will give a positive identification. I bought a pair of 35-36 spindles thinking they were 42-48 myself. Anybody need a 35-36 set? cheap too!
I think he's right...but '35 and '36 are slightly different dimensionally and will have to be measured against dimensions in bulletins!
Yeah, when you see them lying on someone's tarp at a swap meet, you have to study them to make sure. I should probably measure a known '42-'48 and commit the dimension to memory.
Here's how you can tell, just by looking (there are other small measurement differences too, not seen by the naked eye): 32-34 - round top and bottom, flat sides, arm up high on driver's spindle 35-36 - round top and bottom, flat sides, two eyelets on passenger side 37-41 - all round, two eyelets on passenger side 42-48 - flats on top, bottom, both sides, two eyelets on passenger side F-1 pickup - look like 48's but have funky bolt-on arm on driver's side F-100 pickup - look like 48's but have funky bolt-on arms on both sides
And...'36 has late type spindle dimension, '35 early. Steering arms differ some also. Likely would have "48" and "68" forged on back somewhere to distinguish without measuring.
Doesn't matter, they won't work on your car. Box 'em up and ship 'em too...................sent ya a PM.......
The backing plate mounting holes on mine are "4 holes equally spaced on a 4 5/16" dia. bolt circle" or 3.049" apart side to side or top to bottom. What are they ?
