i looked in the about section but it doesnt say what years the forum is open to. I was just told I need to get an "old" vehicle first but it was not specified what old is. My 85 Truck (37 years old) is not old enough for me to be here. What is the official criteria? Thanks
Yep, Pre 1965 traditonal builds. Meaning no billet goodies, No big "rims' an lo LS or Coyote style engines. The group in this links embraces about anything automotive and has side groups that have just trucks or just Mustangs or Just Camaros and what not. Hot Rod Forum (hotrodders.com) If it is a Chevy or GMC truck this group has a section for just 73/87 trucks that is fairly active. 67-72chevytrucks.com A 37 year old truck is still a "late model" work truck with Hambers for the most part and what we use to chase parts with for our fun rides.
@TimeTraveler1985 All you need to know is in this post which is pinned at the top of the forum: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/
Hot Rods: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/guidelines-the-traditional-hot-rod-forum.828348/ Customs: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/guidelines-the-traditional-custom-forum.828351/ It's not always by the year alone. It needs to be built in a traditional style. My truck is 93-years-old, and since it is not a traditional build, it cannot be featured here.
I know what the rules say. But I would say up to 64 to be on the safe side. Over the years I seen a number of posts in regard to 65 Impalas and such that got shut down. Maybe they did not ride the fine line between Cruiser and muscle car the way they should have, I don't know. But 65 talk oh here is a very fine line. But my 64 Marauder fits just fine so I good! lol Larry
..Just read the rules that everyone has posted. Don't worry if you don't yet own a vehicle that fits the criteria. Hopefully you'll get the bug for one. Before that, just don't discuss stuff like electronic FI, air bags, 20" wheels with skinny sidewalls, LS engines, etc. Maybe just read and enjoy first. Welcome aboard, hope you stick around. We need your youthful enthusiasm.
ok thanks. ironically my post was how to convert hei to breaker points (chevy 3.4) which is what i prefer. i thought if anywhere hamb would embrace a question like that.
I don't know if Bubba is still building and rebuilding ignition systems but he would be a great source of information for your question. I'm working from my phone right now and can't access the current vendor list. Anyone else who can help out here?
That’s when the Pony car / Muscle car era phase started. Which is a completely different from the Traditional Hot Rod and Custom Car and Truck ERA.
is a early 1964 1965 barracuda allowed? as to muscle car, a 64 or 65 GTO would not be allowed? or an SS396 Chevelle? and a 64 409 Impala would be allowed?
You've been a HAMB member for 13 years...... Are you asking for yourself and asking to make a point ? If you post gets deleted - you'll know why. If the body style is the same from 64 to 65 it stays. ( Think Buick Riviera as a example) It is stated that way in the rules. ( Body Style same from 64-65) Mustang - Barracuda are Pony cars. Not allowed. Technically the Chevelle is but some have slipped through. The 64 Impala is fine - allowed.
This comes up a LOT! So... I whipped up a quick reference chart that breaks it down in an easy to read graphic. Hope this clears things up for everyone.
Everyone should be required to read the rules & regulations posted as "Stickys" on the top of each section! It is really not that hard folks...I love them all, but just don't post about the ones that are newer than what this forum is for!!!! question… how do i view photos that have a red X? some of these posts ain’t much older than two years. thanks!
Another thing ive been wondering, corvairs, it seems that the second gens are allowed? Im not sure, but the corvairs are pretty much the same from 1965-1969 so it might be one of those "weird ones that has its own place"?
