about the time of the US involvement in the war...Dec 41 (just after the introduction of the 1942 models, which are very rare cars), till summer 1945.

  3. after december 7th , 1941 production of new cars stopped within about a month or so ....while 1942 models where in production

so , 1942 was the last model year for most car makers until the 1946 models came out

Technically, the mfr's still made some cars and light trucks, but they were for military use and not sold new to the public, it is as Squirrel and 36-3 said. Most of the U.S. auto manufacturing plants were converted to supplying the military with what they needed, and for most part it was not p***enger cars or light trucks. It was tanks, planes, big trucks, etc.

That is also why the 41/42 and 46-48 versions of most of the cars look the same, it was still the pre-war design and it took a few years for the new post-war designs to come out.

Some p***enger cars were ***embled as late as Feb. '42, many Jan. & Feb. built cars were put into storage by various gov. agencies for priority use during the national wartime emergency.

cars and trucks were made throughout the war and some were sold to civilians but in EXTREEMLY limited numbers!Almost all the products made before the war continued during it but was very restricted in dispersal to the public. Most of the post war cars were the same main vechile with front sheetmetal updates to appear new.I'm told that the entire nose from pre war fords will bolt directly on a 46-47 vechile or viceversa.there was a 43 ford civilian sedan on a neighbors place when i was a kid that the old guy claims to have bought new in 43, but he is the one who told me that you had to prove you had a special need to get one and there was a lot involved to it. Wish i could remember more about the process but part of it involved proving that you needed the item as part of supporting the war effort.like you ran a trucking firm hauling military hardware or something of the sort.
