Reading the thread about steel model A's verses glass Deuces reminded me of a fellow club member that was admitted about his dislike for 32 Fords, glass or steel!

This club member is a very good friend and we get along well as do our wives but he made a comment one evening when we had gone out for dinner with several other members of the club - " I would rather walk than ride in a 32 Ford", We all had a big laugh but withing a week we were on our way to a show and his 57 Chevy just died and everyone stopped to help.

It was determined that his engine developed a hard knock and he was afraid to drive the car any further and called a tow truck.

After the tow driver left with the car he told his wife to ride with with one of the other members,he was going to ride with Danny,I spoke up and said nope,"Don't you remember saying that you would rather walk that ride in a Deuce?"

Naturally,I didn't make him walk but I did make him eat his share of crow!

He has rode in every Deuce I have owned since then,he still doesn't like them but he is warming up to them. HRP

How could you possibly not like a 32 Ford?

  3. Well Danny you already know that the Deuce is not my favorite Ford. This is not to say that I would not ride in one or even own one if it fell in my lap.

I don't think that I could muster up an actual disdain for anything mechanical, cars bikes, tractors etc., and I learned at a very young age to never say never. LOL

Might be time to un-friend him... everybody I know loves the '32 Ford, most iconic car of all time next to the '59 Ford...

Personally, I think they're a little over rated.
I wouldn't kick one out of my garage, but if a 32 coupe and a 33/34 coupe were parked next to each other, I'd buy the Model 40. ;)

  6. No offense to Danny intended here but that is what ruined them for me, trendy and the 'beaner do not mix. :D

I personally think that the model 40 is the quintessential hot rod. When someone mentions hot rod to me that is the pic that I get in my head.

Note: just to really fluster the unimaginative and under educated, I like a '33 5 window with a Deuce grill shell. :D :D :D.

    great minds think alike. ;)

I remember seeing a 1940 Ford Convertible at Stone Mountain ,Georgia that had a interesting plaque on the dash,it read.

"The two most overrated things in this world are 32 Fords and teenage nookie" :D HRP

Speak for yourself Danny,,but I will never find anything that beats teenage nookie, Not overated in my opinion

  10. LOL teenage nookie was pretty good stuff when I was about 16 or so. :D

My problem is that I just like old heaps, a Deuce built right is as cool as January in Saskatchewan, but so is a Falcon ( and I am not a Ford man). I don't think it is the car for me as much as it is the build. There is actually a 5 window coupe that belongs to a friend in Nebraska that I would really like to own. Its a little rough around the edges and there are some changes that I would make to make it fit me better but the build in general is just sweet.

LOL 15 minutes with Mrs Teen USA will net you 7 years with Bubba.

  14. They go one of two ways when they go through the change they either become horn dawgs or loose all interest.

Getting back to cars, I do not like late '50s Renaults, and while I have not had the opportunity to have to ride in one I may go as far as to say that I would prefer to not. I did say once that I would not be caught dead in a Hearse. But that remains to be seen and I probably won't be the one doin' the seein'.

I don't have anything against '32 Fords although there were a lot of other cars produced in 1932 I'd much rather have.

Perhaps it's not the car itself as it is many of the owners who can't seem to get over the fact they have one or two and will never miss an opportunity to remind us of it.

Beano, there was a local band here in the Anderson in the 60's called the*******s and they had a 58 Caddy hearse painted yellow with a black vinyl top & 5 spoke mags, that thing was cool as could be.

I sure would like to ride in it today but preferably in the front seat! :D HRP

Hold on,I think I hear my phone ringing! :D

In my defense I have beena fan of 32 Fords since I was 12 when I bought my first one,I have owned Model A's,40 Fords,GTO's,Chevy II's & Chevelles, even a 1958 Vette, but I have had the dreaded Deuce disease most of my life.

I know a guy that has one of every body style Chevy made in 1955,he doesn't like Fords at all. HRP

  20. (This was said about a car that was in Texas and needed to be in San Diego to catch a boat to Honolulu) We just put a new motor, transmission, rear end, radiator, battery, hoses, etc in this Corvette, what could possibly go wrong?!?!? ;-) The answer to that question was the power steering box could Crack in half (due to damage from an accident towing it to Texas without the engine in it)! This same statement came up when a young sailor that worked for me bought a 1969 Dodge Station Wagon that was basically a drag car with license plates (440, 727 w/ 3500 stall converter, 4.88's, fiberglass front end, plexiglass side and back windows, aluminum door panels, and NO insulation!) in Michigan and decided to drive it back to San Diego. The answer that time was the front u joint on the driveshaft could come apart and destroy the 727's tail shaft in the process! I don't remember the name of the place it happened, but it was a one horse town somewhere in AZ. Had to find and ship him the parts from San Diego so he could patch it back together and get back to the ship.

32 Fords are the quintessential Hot Rod and probably will always be the best looking in my estimation. I've owned a few but lets face it they don't make the most comfortable highway cruiser. That said I wouldn't mind having another 5 window un chopped coupe.

  23. I'm wired a bit different than most car guys, I want unique! It seems that the "gotta have" cars (Deuces, 34s, 40s, 57s bla, bla, bla) bore me after I've seen more than 2-3 of them at a local one day show.
Last chevy or chevy powered car I owned (only one) was spring of 1973.

@HOTRODPRIMER , you crack me up. That friendly "ball bustin'" is exactly what makes this hobby (life???) so much fun. If someday we should meet, I would rather ride in (enter favorite car here) than walk. :)

It's actually pretty easy. IMO, the '34 Ford is a much better looking car. I respect the lust for the '32, but if someone gave me one, I'd sell it, build a '34 and just might have some money left over.

Danny, are you going to the Autofair in Charlotte in a couple of weeks?
I have a spot there. If you go, stop by and "say hey".

  30. The thing that gave the '32 its hot rod status was LSR, they were popular land speed cars right after the war because Deuce roadsters were cheap and a little longer than their earlier counter parts. At least that is what I have read, the fact that they were one year only cars may help but they certainly are not the only one year model built in automotive history.

They actually didn't become the "Quintessential" hot rod until someone in a magazine coined the phrase. I mean lets be honest here, how many of us or our fathers walked around saying things like that, "Hey Daddy what's that?" "Why son that's a '32 Ford the quintessential hot rod." :D
