    Hello,

Wow, that long stick shift lever brings back memories of our high school Metal Shop/Auto Shop project days. My friend wanted to make his 1951 Pontiac two door sedan different than what other kids were driving. It was the first Pontiac in our teenage group, so that was different. But, after seeing a cool, red 1940 Ford two door sedan with a Buick motor and tall floor shift lever weekly in the drive-in restaurant parking lot, he had to have a floor shift lever for his 51 Pontiac.

The 40 Ford two door sedan had a LaSalle Transmission and the floor shift lever came directly up from the transmission. We would have to make our own brackets and moving arms to make the floor shift unit attach to the existing automatic transmission. I looked at plenty of drawings and adverti*****ts, as well as going to the local auto parts/speed shops for ideas.

After drawing out the necessary parts, the metal shop machines went to work. The project was in conjunction with the Auto Shop next door for the next period of cl***es. It took a while to cut, file, sand and drill the necessary stuff. But, luckily, all of the parts fit and the bolting began.

The first attempt was to add in a long curved stick with a white ball screwed in place. That looked really good. But, when it went into park or toward the dash, it hit the surface. So, we had to make one similar in curve and looks to the photo sample. We even made a short curved lever that looked like a Chevy 4 speed lever, but our friend liked the taller one.

I've posted pictures of this before, but it is just so damn cool. Glenn actually drove this to the Grand National show this year from Arizona.

    Hello,

We were on the move yesterday morning and at night. In the morning, we were on our way to the harbor. Over in the on coming traffic was an Orange/Yellow custom Ford Pickup truck (possible circa 55-56) headed toward San Diego. It was early, so we thought they were going to the Cars and Coffee show by having an early breakfast before the festivities began.

The traffic was light and the paint was what stood out from a long distance away. Being a custom truck, the contrast was there with a nice looking color against a field of white/grey/black surrounding cars of all kinds, not hot rods.

Since we were going in the opposite direction and everyone was going at a fast rate of speed, the camera was not available this time. Usually, I can see ahead and the color certainly would tell me something is coming our way. But, driving was intense. It was a nicely done truck.

The weather was a dull grey drizzly type of morning and lasted all day. The light drizzle lifted, but it looked like "Seattle" weather all day. The marine layer was thick all across the coastal areas. It is a weather pattern that does hit and stay in sunny So Cal. So, we don't always get the great Blue skies contrasting to the Blue ocean and waves.

    Jnaki

So much later in the day, we were headed North on the I-5 freeway and it was just starting to get dark. Everyone had their headlights and we were all going freeway speeds. Because most of the cars were in the mild color range, it was a simple m*** moving forward.

All of a sudden, this same Orange/Yellow pickup (we saw earlier in the morning) was parked on the side of the freeway. They were parked off of the shoulder in a fairly wide dirt area (away from the fast moving m*** of cars) with the hood up and there was a guy leaning into the engine compartment.

It was a long day and very unusual to see the same custom Ford Pickup Truck around 7:30 in the morning and almost the same hour, much later in the same day, 6:45 pm. We were busy all day and my wife was worried that such a cool looking truck had some problems to make him pull over with others going past him at 80 mph.

Hopefully, there was a AAA tow truck was coming up behind us on the last on ramp we had just p***ed. The Orange/Yellow Custom truck would have needed a flatbed truck as it may have been too low to tow in the normal method.
