    Hello,

My wife and I were running some errands and in this particular parking lot, we saw this cool 62-63 small Ford Ranchero in a parking slot. The outstanding blue paint stood out from across the parking lot, so we had to get a closer look. It was an unusual color to say the least. Plus, the side chrome was most unusual and we had not seen one prior.

I would have taken more photos, but I forgot that he parked in front of an old physical therapy place that I went to, back in 2016 when I injured my knee in a sailing incident. I got referred to this place by an orthopedic surgeon for treatment and not surgery. Each day was around 30 minutes. So, by the time I got back in 45 minutes, the Ford Ranchero was gone.

The small size always gave us cause for a possible hot rod truck. When we were looking for a car for our son approaching his driver’s license days, we saw and drove several different cars. He liked old cars, as he thought they were unusual. He also had access to the auto shop cl***es at his high school. But, the interest was not build or rebuild. He wanted to drive.
    upload_2024-1-22_3-53-23.png Thanks, @themoose

So, near our house was a 61 Comet and it only had 15k miles. He looked at it, at me and I told him it could have Moon Discs plus a lowered rake stance to make some simple changes. He said “let’s keep looking.” The next up was a little compact Ranchero pick up. Then a Ford station wagon in case he wanted to take some friends around. Perhaps, the same color blue as the Comet threw him for a loop.
upload_2024-1-22_3-54-32.png But, as nice as this one was, it fit the bill perfectly for our insurance rates, listed as a compact car and thus, lower rates, even for a teenager. Now that there were three cars in our three person family, we had two cars listed as family cars and one listed for our son as required. Luckily, for the years he drove, no accidents or damages claimed. A station wagon for he and his friends? We kept looking, but that little station wagon always stayed in our minds.

We needed a family car that would not break the bank, but still allow us to head for the beach in style. So, I drew what a cool surf cruiser would look like for us.

Our last choice, trying to stay within the lower insurance rates was to look at a 2 door compact Ranchero. Similar to the one we recently saw in a coastal community parking lot. But, for our teenage son, it only held two people…YRMV

I saw this in front of my house this morning. 1964 Oldsmobile Jetstar I. It's my stepson's.

    Hello,

In our small house, we can hear an industrial complex miles away, but only late at night and only for the trained ear from those early drag racing sounds on our own city streets as a teenager. So, when I hear full power acceleration and shifting gears, it is not an idiot on a 1000cc street bike making noise. It is a nicely prepared v8 motor of any sorts making a full power run.

It was a first time sighting for us and from the looks, it is not a weakling stock car. Well, the set up certainly does not portray that meaning or standard looks. The black paint was pristine and the mags looked very good. It certainly had more cl*** than the newish Camaro several cars behind it in the on coming lanes.

Nothing but a golf course, the U.S. Marine training base and empty scrub bushes lining that portion of the landscape. Just perfect for tuning runs or a midnight ride. So, when I saw this old, in great shape, Plymouth, it was coming from the same area as described. In the daylight hours, if this was one of the “nice noise makers” it was a great build from the looks of the set up. Bigs and littles under a 61 year old car.

There are a bevy of hot street powerhouses in that industrial area being worked on from hot rod, race car builders. But, it is a well kept secret. We have seen a black 57 Chevy sedan, a blue late model Chevelle sedan and a red SS 65 Chevelle sedan in and about the coastal city drives. But, never witnessed the late night sound. For us old folks, those late night sounds are music to our ears and not a bother as we drift off to sleep.

There is a straight away in two different directions in the industrial compounds. So, the high power acceleration does not affect anyone for a complaint. Except for a pack of very loud, local coyotes out for a late night snack or that the hunt is on for the night... YRMV

Saw this cool 60 Pontiac at a men’s meeting at church this morning. My buddy Tim just got it going recently.

Me and a buddy have toured through the Crawford Museum a few times with a group from the S.A.E. It's an awesome place. Too cool that you volunteer there. Back then we thought if we lived closer we'd probably volunteer there also. I had forgotten about this place. Thanks for jogging my cluttered brain!

Unrestored, daily driver, at local cruise night. He has two others, one from each production year.
