Well, I work every Saturday. It makes it hard to dig into a project because I don't have two days in a row to gain any momentum on it. I'm off on Sundays and Thursdays so today was sort of the end of my weekend. Anyhow, I made a little progress on the '58. I had planned to put a '54 Chevy grille in the car before I even had it. But when I saw the '58 in the September issue of R&C, I changed my mind. I have a '60 Olds grille from another project and I really liked the look. Plus, sitting in the corner of the garage is a lot cheaper than buying a '54 grille. I guess I should point out, that I didn't actually get the car until mid Nov. I had it pretty much built in my head well before that. I put the grille in and moved the parking lights in and up a bit. Still needs a little tweaking and the pictures ****, but I like it so far. And Gary Howard didn't help one bit.
Good world cl*** mild customizing! Screams KUSTOM.Gary Howard rules. His 53 Ford was one of the slickest mild cars I ever saw. The 58 in R&C just didnt do it for me,as nice as it was. A little too prim and sanitary. You can tell the guy who owned it wasnt enough of a creep to drive a custom.
I pulled my motor in my 48 chevy, nice 58' the one in r+C was allright i would make my own chages though.
I gutted the coupe, motor-******, nasty wood firewall, nasty woodfront floor section, finished s****ing all the tar based undercoating spread throughout the interior...replacing the panels with metal, picked up a new ****** from Mike's Transmissions (Calif), paid $162.00 (!!!) for some lock ring head gaskets for the new 289 (302 crank, trick flow heads)...just a little freshening up for spring!
What did I get done this weekend? Just sat around wondering when you were going to post progress on the 58.
Buzzard, looking good, glad to see the girl getting some well deserved attention. Have you gotten it down to earth yet?, and have you gotten the handles shaved yet? I did get you that paint info, right? Late Farmall
Guess I should clarify that G. Howard really didn't do the grille swap. Kind of an inside joke around Austin about us not working on our cars. And yes, G. Howard rules. If I had the $$$, I'd have him build me something bad ***. Thanks for the nice comments. I think the cruddy picture makes it look better than it does! I'll post some better ones when I can. Pete, lowered the front first thing. We were thinking about keeping the rake, but I'm gonna drop the back and put air shocks to get over speed bumps. The front bumper is ridiculously low for a car without bags. I have poppers in the doors and the handles should come off this weekend depending on how much help Krupa need painting his '51 on Sunday. I found a paint shop in Waco (100 miles away) that has the Diamont. I'll get there next week. I also added some '59 Impala caps, put '54 Buick lenses in the stock taillight housings, and a Mexican Blanket temporary interior. Oh, and Crushproof did some *****in' dual exhaust. The Roundup is soon!
Buzzard, excellent progress, can't wait to see more pics. Showed those to my wife and she told me to get my *** in gear and get started on my 53. Problem is there is snow on the ground and water in the garage, not ideal conditions. Farmall
I didn't see a new thread started so, I found this old one to add to...... KYCHIEF and I worked on his ride this weekend....... put on dual exhaust with smitty's and put on some new shoes, smoothies and some new whitewalls...... they aren't wide whites, but they'll do for now......
Looks good, so far working on my car mainly consits of keeping it running and everything working properly ha ha
I took the dash apart on the Buick, and started the installation of the very, non-traditional, stereo. Made a final decision on tire and wheel combo, and they will be ordered tomorrow. All in all, I have become re-motivated, and ready to finish doing the upgrades on my car. Damn I hate the cold weather, I can't wait until spring time. -Joe
Me and MeesterP spent an interesting day trying to fit/wedge/ram/force the new V6 into my Volvo Amazons engine bay, after realising it wouldn't fit we went to the pub.
I drove about 500 miles round trip to pick up the wife's new convertible. It's not a traditional car unless you're talking mullet rides (71 Skylark ). Then on Sunday a long time lurker made the trip down from Chi-town and bought my dad's 50 Olds I listed in the cl***ifies. Spent the rest of the afternoon looking over and cleaning up the convert to see where to start on the restoration
Played with the interior on the Roadster and got the rear wheels for her... already posted pics here...
Saturday AM I almost took my right index finger off in a car door. It ruined my plans to work on the RPU. It is still killing me. JH
Got my flathead running! It's a hot rod flatty now Fixed the fuel leak and started tuning the carbs. Retorqued the heads. Need to fix that off idle flat spot, but I'll be ok now. The hard dirty work is done, for now anyway.
Picked up my Father's round haybale carrier that he had broken one of the arms on. Went by the wrecking co. and picked up a 5' piece of 3" angle and cut out the broken arm and welded in the new one Sat. Went to bed last nite at about 11:30 and got a call at 01:30 to report to work at a 3 Alarm fire downtown, had about 20 pcs. of equipment. Was there till 07:00 this mrn. when I had to go in on my regular shift. When I got to my regular station the other shift was out with lines laid on a house fire. We relieved them and finally got back to the Firehall about 09:30, cleaned up equip. myself and took to the bedstead till about 14:30 ate lunch, and watched the NASCAR race. May have better luck next weekend... hope it's quiet tonite...
Built this for my son. Although it took more than a few weekends (more like 20) I could have picked one up at Pepboys for half of what I put into it but never as fun. Plus, I now have the coolest and loudest kid in the 'hood. -stick p.s. ...and you can't beat that smile.
Worked on the model A....mocked up the ****** tunnel in cardboard,I just wish it would magically turn into 16guage steel....
I went to my daughters AAU basketball game today, came home and made some headlight stands, welded my b pillars up, sanded em and got em in prime, and drank a few beers....A good day for me....Fido
Finally emptied all the parts and **** out of my truck bed, made a new top piece of the crossmember for the SBF in the '52 Ford and welded it in, (forgot the camera, sorry) got my boat trailer ready for spring, cleaned up the barn.
LAST WEEKEND...Thursday we hopped on the big bird and flew to Tampa..Friday took in the Gartlis Museum in Ocala then off to the DIRT modified race at Volusia County Speedway. Saturday we visited Billy Lane's Choppers Inc in Melbourne then took in the 1/8 mile Nostalgia Drags at Lakeland Dragway. Sunday we was at Daytona for some stock car race...forgot the name...somthin' 500, I think. Monday we flew home and went back to our mundane existence.
Chopped the rear cross member outa my '32 ch***is and fitted the new quick change friendly one. And looked at my new QC. And drooled.
Drove from Houston to Dallas to look at a car. Stayed the night. Bought said car the next morning and towed it to Houston. Stayed the night. Drive back to Dallas to return the trailer and go to the Decatur swap meet. My buddy bought a '23 Tbucket for his dad and I follwed him from Decatur to Houston. 9 fuel stops. Jerked front end off the purchased '37 and started fabbing up mounting points for it since I had to get rid of all the tie wraps and bailing wire. Odds and ends after that....
