Hey, I have a line on a 1949 (I think) 8RT (truck) 24 bolt flatty. It is a good runner and doesnt smoke (it is still in the truck). I have no knowledge of its history, and ***ume it is original and never overhauled. Taking the heads off isnt an option. It is complete air cleaner to pan. What do you think it is worth? What have you paid for runners before?

I'd give whoever has it $25. You don't want it anyway! [IMG]

Paid $100 for a runner that turned out to have a good block. Of course I could see the Mallory distributor, so I figured I couldn't get too badly hurt. Paid $200 for a Merc that had so many cracks when opened up that the block was junk, but it really was a Merc inside and had a 4" crank that hadn't been turned! You never know.

I payed $700 for a good running 49 Merc (with 4" crank) out of a mild custom. Everything was really clean. It also came with a new clutch and pressure plate. I rebuilt and made a full house for my AV8 roadster. I'd value a runner with a 3 3/4 crank, at $300 to $400 The 4" crank in mine by itself is worth $400. Hope this helps.
    Good luck,

Well, it is hard to say... I paid $400 for a 1946 Ford 59AB from a good friend. I saw and heard the engine run in his '46 Ford business coupe before he sold it to me. Absolutely no blow-by or miss, tick, knock, etc. It looks like hell, but runs damn near perfectly. And if you already don;t believe that, he bought the car from an old lady up in Pasadena and her husband was the original owner. She drove the car up until the early '90s, let it sit, and just fired it up every now and then. Absolutely serious story. My friend is going to install a built Merc flathead in the '46 that he has had for awhile in his garage. The flatty I got will be going in my traditional 1940s styled hot rod '32 Ford truck. I am running a '42 truck trans with open driveshaft hooked to a '47 truck rearend using p***enger car axle tubes and spring. Front end is a MorDrop 4" with '40 brakes, '34 steering box. I should start wrenching on the damn thing instead of talking about it so much... Anyway, hope that helps...hard to find a good running flatty anymore.
