Check this out. Reverse lookup manual. Find the famous hot rod or custom and it lists the magazines it was featured in

@Moriarity What's with the Trojan lubrication guide on the bottom shelf? I thought the put that stuff on at the factory before they put them in the little plastic pouch.

Back in the early days of the internet, a rebel would have scanned it and made it available for all to download... but that was the early days...and a guy had to be a bit of a rebel. Jus saying...

I remember using a similar lube book at my summer job back in high school in the early 60’s.
The information it contained was invaluable for a young kid trying to learn all he could between pumping gas and keeping the shop clean.

I see some familiar stuff on some of your bookshelves, and some pictures I intend to look more closely at to see if anything looks interesting that I'll have to hunt down to buy.

Here are some overall shots of what I've got and a few highlight pictures of some of my favorites.

Here are some my favorites. I got all the versions (that I'm aware of) of the California Bill Chevy (and GMC) Speed Manuals, plus a few of the Frank McGurk booklets. Model T Ford in Speed and Sport is really cool. The Manual for Chevrolet Owners (esp. the blue one) and Chevrolet Six Car and Truck (the thick red one) have some good info.

I refer to my new reprint 48-53 truck manual (or the internet) most when working on mine, but the Chilton manual was an antique shop find I couldn't p*** up. The Chevrolet Parts and Accessories Catalog has proven itself useful. The 29-50 Parts and Accessories catalog on the shelf is a reprint, but it was $5, so, score.

I got a relative late start collecting magazines, but it kinda took off via eBay during Covid. I have all the Hop Ups (except July 51), and a pretty good bit of Car Craft (and all of Honk!), R&C, Hot Rod (starting late 49), and Speed Mechanics up through the mid-late 50s. I have a short stack of Trend and Fawcett annual type books, and a stack of random Speed Age, Motor Trend, and other ***les I've picked up for certain articles. I still have a couple big totes of Hot Rod, Car Craft, and a few others from the late 90s til 2010 or so in storage (garage and attic) that I need to organize and get rid of.

And my modest vintage speed parts catalog collection:
