me and a guy i work with were talking about this last night, and has anyone here built or had a REAL paint booth put it? I was wondering what all a booth needed to be an approved setup. I know it's probaly different in different areas but I thougth i could get a general idea of what the usual things are here. We want to et a little paint operation goign here at the end of the year or so (paitn and body is my thing (that's why i have so many retarded electrical & mechanical questions) but I dont' remember ever seeing anythign in the classes I've taken or anythign about what is required booth wise.

The specs vary from state to state and sometimes even county to county.
You will be dealing with the whims of your version of OSHA, AQMD, your city zoning, your local fire department and your local building inspectors.

    Good luck!

  4. What DrJ said....
My insurance carrier asked specifically if I had a "UL approved" booth(Underwriter's Laboratory) I suppose it has to do with electricity and flammable fumes(duh) [IMG]

  7. Hmm, the guys I know in NY are using stick built with two layers of 5/8 rock (Firewall) a fan and furnace filters. It really does depend on where you are. TP Tools has a pretty good deal on stand alone booths including lighting and fans. Just a thought.

yeah, I know the downdrafts are expensive. the one at the local community college was about $65,000 if i rmemeber right, but it was SUPER nice. most palces around here just use updraft booths, so that's probaly what we'll have to do.
