Thinking about picking up a project... Its a 29 briggs leatherback sedan.. Its missing one rear door, grill shell, fenders, and hood... The wood structure is pretty much gone but the sheetmetal is in very good condition.. Very straight with allmost zero rust complete chassis with a banger engine that will run... chassis also has minimal rust... In you guys opinion whats fair market value on this old tin? Thanks in advance for any help!!
If you are sure you want a dull vintage car that you could turn into something cool with with a lot of work go for it with your eyes open . Pay as little as possible , if it were even a 4dr sedan it would be more desirable. It seems like its already been picked over a little with the good bits gone. Have a buddy who has started on a leather back sedan and is now realizing how much work is involved is rebuilding one of these with all the wood etc, though his body is only average.
here are a couple that were sent to me... like i said the wood structure is rotten... but the actual sheetmetal is very nice and straight... with minimal rust
Better check your prices again... the top alone is $975 from fordwood.com. I've got a 60C blindback and it freaked me out when I saw the wood prices. I think I'm going to replace mine with steel!
If this is your first old car project I would keep looking, find something more complete and in better condition, my 2 cents
no more than a grand tops the wood kit is almost 5 grand and you shouldn't be a novice with model a's or wood working if you want to get it right that my friend is a parts car for a go-job speedster...as long as it has a title tk
........and after you've invested a year of your life fitting wood and tacking newly straightened and de-rusted panels to them and you've checked your total expenses and realize you're into for $6K and you still have a body style that most would say...."yechhh" to............. ummmm, but I'm rambling....... I'd pass on that one...... at any price.
I wouldnt take the body for free... The frame is good though I should add because of the wood. fitting and cost. Its a pain. Plus its a fordor, but some people are looking for them.
wow....you all sound like a bunch of guys from the fordbarn. Forget the wood....replace it with steel or aluminum tubing and build a hot rod. If you can get it for a decent price that is....I wouldn't spend more than 800-1000 on it.
Brog Actually these days it is worth more than I am willing to pay for it. I don't like to drop more than a grand on a project but that is just unrealistic, a leather back sedan may be pretty pricey.
I won't give any more that 500 bucks,,and hope I can sell the running gear to clear most of the cash outlay. There appears to be a lot of patch panel work to be done and whether you go wood or steel framing you are looking at a lot of work. HRP
If this was a 1932 up it would be worth double ......Right all ? Good Luck . Keep looking. Dad told me he bought a 30 roadster.TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS. It was stored in a garage. He removed all the tires/wheels and switched to his A sedan. He abandoned the nice roadster he bought. The owner was in the military. He was contacted by the owners mother, her comment was ''You got to get that car out of there.
