How rare are these 1928 M***. plates (one year only as far as I know) showing the Cod fish swimming away from the state? Apparently the fishing industry cried fowl and the fish was shown swimming toward the state the next year. I've been told that the '28 plate was the first time that a state used a stamped graphic on a plate. Can anyone verify this?...Thanks, Don.:) 20170709_093047.jpg

    A Codfish, ok.
I was gonna say they didn't like it because the image showed the
    B*** *** next to M***. Lousy humor..
Being roughly rectangular in shape, PA used to have the outline of the state as the tag border. Prior to the standardized 2 letter state designation, it was ''Penna''.

Yes, I have a few of those, not as nice as yours. How about the grammatically appropriate" You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania", ie "You have got a friend in Pennsylvania" who, apparently slept through 8th grade English.

I am trying to finish up that same collection. As you said, I am considering Alaska and Hawaii not states. The Alaska is over a grand. Most I got int he $20 - $40 range. The really rural in 32 states are the hardest, FL, SC, WV I only lack Louisiana. I know where one is but they are asking $300. Last one on ebay I saw went around $200. Pay for one with good paint. I did a couple myself, it's a pain. I hear silkscreening is the way to do it, but I don't know any one with that set up

  7. Here in good ol' Saskatchewan we can use an old plate.
We have to buy a vanity plate with the same numbers/letters & carry this plate in our car at all times.
It is recommended that you install the vanity plate if you leave the province.
