What I find odd is if you look at old magazines and books from when hot rodding started you will see builders using the latest tech or tools or motors that were available at the time. It was all about updating in most cases. I remember reading articles on installing rack and pinion steering, corvair front ends, and Jag rear ends. And models of cars that would have been unheard to restore back in the day are now desirable. Billet was a fad that came and went quite quickly and maybe it's just me but I don't believe you will ever see a rebirth of that type of build again.

I started reading car mags about the time Lil' John ****era got his 1st CNC machine. It quickly went from a useful tool to 'look what I can do with CNC' (I'm not referring to ****era here, but in general). In the HAMB era, machining was a way to solve a problem, such as mating an oddball engine to another brand of transmission. The 'billet' that gets looked down upon here (and some other car circles) is done for the 'hey, lookit me' factor. It isn't the tool, it's the loose nut holding the wheel that's the problem. Or, to put it another way, it isn't the machine, it's the tool...

  5. Boredom is setting in. This question does not have a universal answer and is boring in and of itself.

    Carry on troops.
