Got home from my journey to the Salt on Wednesday afternoon. The old 40 ran like a champ all the way and most of the way back, the oil filter decided to fall off about 30 miles west of Salina Kansas. Our liitle group took out of Mo on Tuesday afternoon, myself, Jimmy Farley ,Jerry(ductail), The Mikes (visor) and (regular JD) with their 32 5 window in tow, Mike Duffus, Dave Dooley and Don Sier. Hit a drencher in north Mo that ran with us to Lincoln NE where we decided to call it a night. Got up Wednesday morning to more rain but soon ran out of it. We stopped in Ogalalla Ne for lunch at Hokes Cafe. Cool little place and the owner is a hot rodder himself. They were closing down for the afternoon but were nice enough to stay open for us. The end of day 2 we made it to Evanston WY, we covered almost 800 miles that day. Thursday morning we got up and finished the trip to Wendover. We got our stuff unloaded and headed for the salt, to say we were a little excited would be an understatement. The lake made me a little apprehensive but I didnt come all this way to let a little water get in the way. They were already getting people off the salt when we arrived so we spent a little time at the end, and the bend in the road. Hoping that by Friday morning some of the water would go away. Alot of Hambers rolled in on Friday and I got to meet alot of people I hadnt in the past Spike, Carps, Scarry Larry, Megan, Johnny Sparkle, the list goes on and on and on. And it was also great to to see old friends again. So enuff on my rambling heres a few pics. The Hokes Cafe, good Rueben sandwich. I thought Bonneville was dry salt lake!!! The salt makes girls frisky And dirty old Aussies too...
That was your '40 coupe? Man, that thing was giving me strange sensations in my bathing suit area all week. One of my favorite non-race cars out there.
Yeah I was hoping we would run into the type of rain we hit on the way out. Not a drop. Todd there aint nothin to it but to do it...dont let the wife spend all the money at the outlet mall next weekend. Coop not sure if I should be happy about that or a little creeped... It was a pleasure meeting ya.
Heres a few more, there was so much to see it was hard to take it all in. So I figure I'll have to go again next year...yeah I think Im hooked.
Great shots.Luckily it was 104 here today so was able to get total sensory effect. I'm going out in 2 weeks for the BUB meet. Its an all motorcycle meet.
Sorry you had trouble near Salina bro. I work there and coulda lent a helping hand. Thanks for posting the pics. Your coupe looks great.
Maybe both... is the front plate motor mount on your SBC an original piece or one of the new Vern Tardel ones? Everything about that '40 was exactly how i'd like to build one.
Troy, Your pictures put all of the others to shame. The others were good but yours are beyond belief. I wish I could have made it to your place with Rusty for the slide show. If I don't see you before the Drags I will see you there. The Binder is revved and ready! Keith Watch out for Breeder, he has grown female parts so he could go to the outlet mall.
Jay it turned out ok. A state trooper came by and helped me find the filter, the seal was gone so I couldnt put it right back on. Mike, Jimmy and Regular JD dropped the 32 off at the motel in Salina and came back and rescued me. I was trying to keep up with Plowboy and JR, as soon as we hit the highway after a gas stop is when it happened. Since thats the worse thing that happened I call the trip a success.
Coop the front mount is an original Hurst. I lucked out and found an NOS one that had all the hardware. I felt the same way when I built it...lol. Glad you like the car. Kieth wow I dont know what to say...thanks. Just learning this photography thing got a lot to learn. Need to go through them and clean them up some. Theres been some really awsome pics posted.
