Art & Inspiration What's something cool to display in the back of a '50's station wagon?

I've got an original-paint '55 Stude Conestoga I've been wrenching on and putting back on the road. Lately I've been thinking that it needs something cool in the cargo area for when I take it to shows and cruise ins.. I'm a single guy in my late 20's, so a family picnic basket doesn't do it for me.

One wild hair idea is to find a 50's or 60's Go Kart and restore it.. I'll be needing another project soon as the wagon is almost ready to hit the road.

Anyway. Any ideas? I'm all ears. The rear seat folds down flat for even more room.

    Why clutter the car up?
Just display it as it is

I bought a Pearl Beer cooler for the back of my Country Squire. No one around here has ever heard of Pearl, and that’s my daughter’s name (not named after the beer?
I use the cooler to store tools, extra fluids and spare parts.
I’m normally not a fan of props for cars, but since the car doesn’t have a trunk anything you travel with is on display so the cooler keeps my breakdown kit under cover.

I also have a surfboard for the roof rack, that is a prop but without it every second person asks where my surfboard is.

When my dad has his F100 he kept a box of broken race engine parts in the bed. A couple of broken pistons, a head split in half, mangled connecting rods and stuff like that.
It looked like the shelf in Burt Monroe’s shed.

Maybe vintage chain saws, a goalie mask, leather apron, long rubber gloves and a shovel.

  9. If you just have to have something this sounds good, you always need a cooler and a couple of chairs.

This is our wagon at a family reunion a few years ago,HRP

Vintage shovel, pick and Geiger counter. Very of-the-era.

    Nice car. Original paint? Wow.

My folks always displayed their four beautiful children in the back of their 57 Plymouth wagon.

Put some woofers and engrave your last name on the back window. Lol. Just messing with you. Sweet ride! I think an old restored tool kit would look cool back there.

There was a very clean original looking early Falcon wagon running around here. Had a modern drivetrain and was running 12.0 at E-town.
In the back were brown bags filled with fake groceries.

Beautiful "Studebopper"! I agree with Fred, unless your going somewhere, where you will need a cooler, picnic basket, and chairs, best left neat and tidy!

  26. When I was in Boy Scouts in the early 60s, my dad and I built a shallow-draft pram from plans in the back page of Boy's Life magazine. It fit perfectly inside the back of our '62 Valiant stationwagon when the back seat was folded flat and the tailgate was open. It even fit on the roof rack, if we wanted to load the back up with camping equipment and two or three more Scouts. I know you can Google the plans, because about 15 years ago I looked up the plans online and built another boat just like it for my son and me to paddle around in.
