Patience gr***hopper. The thicker the grease is the more you need to let it sit and soak in and reapply. But yes it does work. I've used EZ OFF and the cheap dollar store stuff as well and it works great. Scotch brite and water will take it down to bare metal easily.

spray it down with WD-40 drive around, then pressure wash, or for insane stuff, muratic acid(found at pool stores) takes paint rust and grease off well. i use it in a insecticide sprayer.

I'll give it another try, but it set for a few hours and it didn't seem to do much. I'm going to the dollar store today and get some "off brand" stuff that likely has nastier chemicals than the name brands. ;)

Some HD oven cleaner....Tow it to a local "do it yourself carwash" to rinse the oven cleaner and crud off....... They have the heavy duty drains to handle it. Doing it at home would run it down the storm drains,....which is frowned upon these days.....

For heavy grease = Elbow grease, hot soapy water, H-D brushes and a ton of disposable rags.

I personally would not breathe in the harsh chemicals. God knows what the long term effects are after all the motors I have cleaned. It can't be good when your hands still smell like chemicals 3 days and 3 showers later. As for over cleaner, I don't know how it reacts with hoses and gaskets over time. I can't say I would try. For me, it just takes elbow grease... no way around it.

For light grease and oil SD-20 works miracles without damaging paint and gaskets. It isn't going to penetrate globs of grease, but it will cut oily films really well and won't need to be rinsed off when done.

s****e and brush of most of it, then get several cans of foaming oven cleaner at the 99 cent store. Cheap, effective and doesn't smell afterwards like engine degreaser

I also swear by the cheap oven cleaner,we have dollar stores around here, you guys are lucky to have 99 cent stores. The cleaner I use actually has a lemon scent to it. I feel that diesel fuel and kerosene stink up the garage for weeks after use.
