building a race car for a local vintage early stock race car class, we have to run 6 cylinders, and we have to use 1 single barrel carb, everybody seems to be running mono jets, but I'm wondering if someone might have another suggestion? like maybe an old packard or pontiac straight eight, does anyone know the bore sizes of those carbs, Thanks for any suggestions!
the straight 8 pont and packards had 2 barrel carbs some of the last packards with straight 8 also had 4 barrells. . The best reason for a mono jet 1 barrel is the floats work well on left turns and have the best cfm flow that you can find... not all carbs are created equal. measure the venturies and the throdel plates some will be bigger than others. good luck..Bobby..
We used to have a 1954 F.W.D. truck that had a Waukesha 409 ci inline six with a single barrel carb, a BIG single barrel carb.
do you have a stock unaltered manifold rule? The limit on most stock manifolds is the manifold, even with a bigger carb. Check out an old,40's to early 50's truck maintenace book. The old 6 cyl gas trucks got pretty big CI engines running 1 bbls. Whites, Macks, Diamond T, REO, Autocar.
And there are 2 sizes of Monojet, just in case your competitors don't know. 292's in some years hve significantly bigger venturis. I think there are also 292 exhaust manifolds with bigger outlet.
Yes, the 292 powered medium duty truck exhaust manifolds had a 2 1/2 inch outlet. Also, a Rochester B carb from a 261 has a 1 3/4 inch throttle bore, as opposed to the 1 9/16 inch bore that the 235 carbs have.
