I decoded the vin on my 1947 Chevy (2EK57xxx) it came back as a Fleetline or Fleetmaster. How can I tell the difference?
Simple..a fleetline is the only chevy with a fastback body...the fleetline has a "bustleback" sedan body with an extended trunk.
Those guys left a few things out. There's the Stylemaster, Fleetmaster, and then the Fleetline. The difference between the 3 is trim level. And in the Fleetline case, body style. The Fleetline was available as a 2-door aerosedan and a 4-door sportsmaster sedan. The aerosedan was also available as a fleetmaster model which meant you had the fastback body style without the chrome ribs on the fenders. By the way, the 4-door sportsmaster fleetline is also known as a "German Helmet" because the trunk area resembles a German helmet. A few other things. There was no convertible fleetlines and the First fleetline was in 1941. It was only available as a 4-door German helmet and there were no fender ribs. There was just a "Fleetline" script on the trunk deck.
