In my case it wasn't just one car. Around 1954 my Dad took me over to Colton. I saw the Bean Bandits and a bunch of cool cars. Being 9 years old I had no appreciation of what I was looking at. But the cars were cool. Then I saw Grabowski's bucket on "77 Sunset Strip" and Ivo's T in HRM and I was hooked.

Well, it was probably invetro but I do remember when I was about 10 years old, I came out of the movie theater (I think the movie was Redline 7000). I heard a rumble and a black 63 1/2 427 Galaxy came down the street with his dumps open. It had "Bad News" painted on the front fender behind the wheel well.

  4. My neighbor and his 55 Chevy race cars( and the rides he would give my brother and I) I still get a smile on my face to this day when I think about it. RIP in Roy A.

The car in my avatar. My dad was on the pit crew. It held the track record and was generally a front runner at the local dirt track (Skagit Speedway) in the sixties.

It was most likely a '66 Mustang. I'm not really a fan today, but it got me thinking as a little kid. After that, it was the '67 Chevy II that set me on fire - figuratively.

  7. I had toy "hotrods" as a little kid. But, the car that really did it for me was a light purple 32 highboy roadster with white tuck and roll, chrome revrse rims with "pinner"whites,3deuces and chrome side pipes. Dont remember what brand of engine was in it but it had the Chrome rocker covers and all the cool bright work. It sat on the perfect rake, and it had an "8" ball painted on the diffy cover! That was followed shortly after by seeing pic's of the Hirohata Mercury. GAWD what a gorgeouse car! I was done! stick me with a fork! Put RUST in peace on my headstone!

Back in the early 60's older brother Gluefoot was cutting up a 38 Dodge coupe to turn into a stock car, using a gas axe he cut through a fuel line and whoooooommmmmpppppppppph burned my eyebrows off and literally made my hair stand on end and nearly set me of fire.
Not that kind of fire? It would have to been his 62 Dodge with a Hemi shoehorned in, that thing was fast and scary, the rear tires would break loose at 100mph and it wore N50 M/Ts

It was initially painted purple metalflake. He sold the car years ago and came across it again about 12mths ago rotting away in a paddock, too far gone to be resurrected. The engine went into an Australian Charger. Damned shame!

The more i think about it, the more clear the fact is.
The cartoon "One Cab's Family" sure got me, along with "Suise the Little Blue Coupe"
(Loved the sound of the car she bumped into in the parking lot)
But the real one was my dads 34' five window in the early 90's. Burnt orange. mild 350. Wild chop & channel, typical late 80's interior with suede & octagon wood wheel. no fenders, no hood. front runners W/ pro streets & centerline rims.
It was a cool little car, as a short lil' kid i had to tell my dad what the light was when he got too close under it.

For me it was my Grandpa's 38 Ford Deluxe Coupe. I remember looking at it many a time as a small boy.

When I was a kid my dad worked for Lincoln-Mercury. He brought home a dealer magazine about Comets. Inside was an article on Jack Chrisman's 65 Comet funny car. To this day I think that's one of the neatest drag cars ever built!!!!

2 cars stand out for me. A 55 chevy 2 door post, with I think what they called a "Dago" front drop, painted green, and a 34 Ford coupe, olds engine, painted purple.

1959 Chevy Biscayne. Way back in the early 90s. Seen one at back to the fifties. I have loved those cars since then. My dream car for sure.

When I was a little kid in Spearfish, SD in the early '60s, a neighbor had a 55 or 56 Ford, red with chrome reverse wheels, nose high, no front bumper, with a Y-block. Loved the look & sound of that car as it came down the street. I've wondered if that guy is on here and what happened to the car.

  29. I've always been a car nut. to this day I dream of a motor that will run hard enough that I back out of it for fear!

My first real rush was Ronny Blacks, Black 40 ford 2 door sedan. my Dad's car broke down and he was late for work in downtown Los Angeles we made it from east Pasadena to LA in record time for 1953. going thru the curves on the Pasadena freeway at 90+ with 5 people and a built flat motor screaming will never leave my memory banks.
then in 1955, my neighbors Dad had a brand new Chev 2 door post V-8 stick. had a Hot Rod pull up next to us at a stop light and the race was on.

I told my self when I was an old man (his Dad was under 40) like him I'd still be racing everytime I got a chance. at 68+ I still don't have any responsible thoughts going on

Before I was old enough to read, my parents used to read to me from a picture book about "a nice old truck" named "Rackety Boom". I still want a truck just like that.
