While meeting up with some great Hambers in London, I realized that without the HAMB my life would be completely different, sounds strange I know. I came on here with hopes of learning more about the ancient art of hotrodding and kustomizing, completely niave of anything that went on under the hood. I was just another dumb girl who liked to look at the pretty candy colors and metal flake. Now I know a little more (or at least I like to think so), and I have managed to meet some great people through here, although that was never my original goal. I met my fiance while asking for some good advice on my old jalopy, met most of the friends I have now, and was able to fly across the world and feel right at home with all the london hambers, who took care of me like family (Thanks guys!). I am so greatful for this site, I have learned so much from everyone on here, and although most of my comments on here aren't technical car questions I have learned so much from reading others technical questions than I have thus far from reading any old car book. So thanks to all the people who make the Hamb board possible. I'll stop my sloppy sentiment now and get back in the garage.

I can't get work done at work anymore, and I get sick and convulse on the weekends from withdrawls.

    Nads said it best....

Not a quote mind you... something like...
The Hamb is like a burning rectal itch that you can't stay away from.

No, I disagree... theres more technical info than BS anytime. Maybe you just spend too much time reading the drama and overlooking the good shit. :D

I meant I learn more from reading technical posts on here than I have learned from reading some books.

  5. Well, for starters the HAMB has help me overcome the heartbreak of psoriasis.

It has become my "go to" for information. Magazines have such limited space and I don't care what the editors may say - they exist to sell ad space. Revenue is the main reason for any business venture. But here on the HAMB it's like having, dare I say it, the most brilliant minds in the field working for you. Either through first hand experience, knowing where to get the info you need, or knowing someone who has done it, HAMBers have a wealth of knowledge. Sure some of us are a bit on the smart-ass side of the equation, but all in all, I've learned more in the few weeks I've been posting than in years of just trying to figure it out myself.

I'm pretty sure once I get to now some local HAMBers I'll be able to ask for actual hands on help and get it. Plus this way I can help them on their rides and learn from their screw-ups, like they'll learn from mine.

Seriously, thanks guys for the help with that heartbreak thing....

Not to sound like an ass, butt.... :)

It's really like anything else in life...

You get out of it exactly what you put in.

If you're a peeping tom and never really contribute, you won't get a whole hell of a lot out.

If you do nothing but post mindless shit, that's exactly what you'll get out.

Remember, we all make this place what it is...

Glad it's helped you in some way and remember that if that's the case, chances are you've helped someone else.

    Group hug... HOMOS!

Found My, and "JDs" first traditional cars for sale on here from new HAMB friends. a 38 dodge and a 48 hudson.

Met a couple of the HAMBers - hopefully meeting a couple more this upcoming weekend in SASK.

Also - makes me confident that I can accomplish anything with my car. If I hit a snag or get stuck - I feel that I can ask the questions, and get responses. Also - it's the only place I've really wanted to give back to or support.

  10. Killroy and oldcars nailed it! I have met some really great people through this board. Kindred souls that have restored my faith in the kindness of strangers and helped me figure out mechanical problems I could never have figured out on my own. To them I owe a debt of gratitude that I can only hope to repay through passing on the same gifts of knowledge, encouragement, and kindness to others.

I also met DIRTYT, Fat hack, MercMan, HotRodDrummer, Denise, Roadstar, HotRodToHell...........

For me its been a lot of things...

A source for information (critical in my magazine job)

A place to hang out with others of similar mind...which is a bigger deal than one may initially believe. Like so many others here, I thought I was a freak for loving this stuff until I came here and "met" so many others who feel similarly.

It's a "filter" against idiocy...the many who come here looking and don't last prove this. It takes a certain mindset to "get" the HAMB...you have to be willing to give of yourself to really grasp it, and in this day and age it seems few are willing to do so. Luckily, the few are mostly all here.

I see this in those wanting to work with and deal with other HAMBers...being a regular here means you're not ripping anyone off or out to make a quick buck on the latest trend...there are too many good people here to let that happen for long.

When I relocated cross-country, the first folks to welcome me to my new hometown were HAMBers...and I'm proud to have them as friends now. I already trusted them before I got here, and the HAMB is to thank for that...

What happens here represents plenty to me. The modern interpretation of the classic hot rod and custom styles of the past typifies what I feel is the lifeblood of our hobby, and keeping one's finger on the pulse requires regular visits...

I feel like I'm among friends here- even (maybe "especially") among those I've never met personally. I'm thankful for it.

  13. This board has done a lot for me. Its helped me gain confidence in what I do w/ my rides; from custom metal fab to mechanical work. I think my knowledge of classic/custom cars has grown by hundreds of percents.

The information and knowledge on this board is priceless. People are eager to help out in any way.

The classifieds, since its inception, is a great way to move parts around to those who need them...and the $$$ is fair. You dont feel ripped off and it helps base a price for stuff you could find in swaps, and know if your getting ripped.

I have met alot of guys from the HAMB, and some pretty cool friendships have come out of it too.

Thanks Ryan for this place and to all who have ever helped me in my ventures. :)

And...this place is addicting....Im on practically all day.

My name is C50F...and Im addicted to the HAMB! :)

Now...if we could only get more stickers or those cast aluminum plates made... :)

The HAMB is the best hot rod thing to happen. There is not a lot of traditional stuff here (ND) and this keeps me going and I have had tons of great advice. Oh ya, and I forgot that I am at work to work:D

If it wasn't for the hamb I would have never met a few people that I'd call friends today. I think that's the best thing the hamb could give any of us.

If it wasn't for the hamb I wouldn't have met nick. Learned as much as I have so far. Got my carb rebuilt and my caddy running better than ever.

Wouldn't have ever discovered Roger Jetter and his awesome stories and the 59 caddy hubcaps he hooked me up with.

plus it's helped me kill time at work.

  16. I have got to meet a bunch of guy in Austin because of the HAMB. Sold 2 cars and spend lots of time reading.

I wouldn't have almost gotten fired several times.

  18. It is the ONLY reason I've made it as far as I have on my RPU, and it has given me the knowledge needed to finish it up.

My RPU wouldn't exist if it weren't for the HAMB.

I agree it makes the work day go by quick.

The people are the reason this place rocks. Where else could you meet some wild lady from Michigan who will invite strange men from all over the world to sleep at her house...

...um... ok, that paints her in a strange, almost perverted light...

how about where else could you meet a lady willing to open her home and heart to fellow gearheads all over the world??? :p

I hear stories all the time of people giving parts to others or going out of their way to help out a HAMBer.

I love this place and I love you guys.

(and not the ride you around the bedroom wearing a viking helmet kind of love)

Where do I start? Put me in touch with a worldwide base of people that make me believe that my sickness isn't all that rare. Taught me more about history than I could learn in any school. Delivered a Viking helmet from Mike.

For me - and the most important - is the number of friendships that I have been able to make.

I think this is only place you can ask a tech question and get an honest answer. You get enough different info to make a good choice.
I have learned so much and have more confidence in my abilities.
I haven't met any Hambers in person yet but am looking forward to it.
    Thanx everyone!

The HAMB has kept my mind from going into a persistent vegetative state at work. It has almost entirely replaced my participation in several other girly car discussion forums. It has led to me meeting a few great folks. It has led to me buying a bicycle of questionable safety, several cans of 1-Shot, at least one decal, and one cool piece of art. It convinced me to try doing some of my own artwork. It informed me of Billetproof and Rodder's Journal and several other sources of great entertainment.

It has not yet pushed me into buying a car that is not off-topic. It has however pushed me into spending most of my time thinking about buying a car that is not off-topic.

  28. It gets out tough stains in high traffic areas, never needs sharpening and has it's own retractable cord.

...and I really like you fuckers. :)

I, like others, have a Hamb Addiction. I love watching peoples projects progress, and have learned tons from others posts. I also found my sedan body from a fellow Hamb'er, popsrods, and got to meet at least one Hamb'er. Once the sedan is done I look forward to driving it everywhere and hopefully meet more Hamb'ers!
