What's the Holy Grail of rare parts?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hester, Jan 24, 2008.

  1. How about Ardun heads for a V8-60? 16 sets made. These were on the 60 in an outrageous TD MG at the Monterey historic races in '82. Homemade intake with down draft Webbers. To me, this car was the stand out of the entire weekend. The engine liked to rev, and the guy ran the snot out of it. :D

1935 Ford/Miller 4 carb intake manifold with either Miller or Winfield Carbs. These were built and used on the front wheel drive Ford factory cars that Harry built for the 1935 race...All DNF'd due to inherent steering problem (after the exhaust manifold boiled all the grease out of them they all seized up). Kind of hard to make even left turns when you cant turn the wheel! The 4X1 manifolds all proved too tricky to tune as I understand it so the team switched to Hexagon Tool manifolds and dual strombergs for the actual race. I have a picture of one of the original manifolds on a car at the race with the Miller Carbs. Mine has Winfields...will try to post a pic, its a neat setup.....Someday!

  17. Please do! There's a pic or two of the 4 carb setup in one of the Miller books, but nothing like the detail of a current picture (especially off of the engine)!

  18. The wierd part about this Latham??

Maybe "rare" is --- that the front & rear bearing housings look like at first take, they are on the wrong end. I've had 2 & looked at a few more & the Latham Plate was on the front above the pulley on all of them. My current 4 carb is on the front.

All of the ones i've seen were automotive. Looking at the pic again the carbs mount only on the front so this might be some type of Marine application, then it would be one off. Tag on the back.

How about a '57 Pontiac Bonneville Rochester fuel injection set-up? I knew of one a few years ago but the owner would never name a price... was taken off in the 50s and replaced with a tri-power... been in the garage ever since... I wonder what ever happened to the Bonnie that it came on???

I saw an unrestored one at Pomona about 20 years ago row 34 stall 50 if that helps! That is a RARE part, I have only seen one unit (come to think of it only one 57 Bonneville!) in my life. It was fully restored at Pomona as well about 15-18 years ago. The car was MINT and was $75,000 then as I recall.

Just scored this for the Hill & Tully Special, an ultra rare (at least that's what the description said) Cal-Marine motor plate/timing cover for MEL. We're using it on our stroked 462:

  25. Dunno that Id call it the holy grail of rare parts but I do have a complete Mcculloch supercharger setup for early Cadillac ohv (331 365 390). Brackets, pulleys, belt, vacuum switch, etc. I thought I could piece one together but after two years of searching for just the damn bracket I gave it up. Luck came calling one day and I found this complete setup on evilbay. Contacted the seller and we went over part numbers so I was certain it was what he said it was. He was super cool ab it start to finish.

How about a set of NOS FORD Factory cast-iron headers for a SOHC/Cammer. I know of a pair that sold for $10K recently!! Hulman & Moody threw them in a pile for scrap because no one used them! I know of one more set the guy won't sell. Tom
