Jesus I am so sick of these kind of comments.

It would have been a lot easier for Steve to fold after the covid debacle than it was for him to crawl his way back to putting another issue out.

has it ever dawned on any of you that maybe the reason EVERY OTHER MAGAZINE HAS GONE OUT OF PRINT is because financially it’s really damned hard to do it now days?

also you paid $50 for a subscription years ago,
Boo hoo, so did the rest of us.

tell me you haven’t wasted $50 on a part that you’ve got laying around that you never used?

Like @Nailhead Jason once told me, you’re never really a car guy until you purchase a vehicle that you never actually picked up.

so all that said, let’s try an give a little more grace to those that are doing what they can to keep this rapidly dying hobby of ours alive instead of bashing the **** out of him because it’s taking everything he has to get a damn issue together.

also if $50 is that important to you
A: you shouldn’t be messing with old cars
B: and as I’ve said before, DM me your address and I’ll mail you $50 so you can stop crying about it.

Well Hotdam maybe you are right and he should have could have just folded like so many others have done in the past. Maybe the time to have done that was when he closed off new subscriptions.

I would have respected him more so then than now. My big issue is the emails that have gone out implying that they are working towards getting back to normal and have reopened taking subscriptions when it is quite clear that they cannot deliver on their promises.

To me that seams like it is pretty close to trading whilst insolvent.

I am certainly not going to go hungry over my subscription but I do not appreciate being misled or taken for granted.

We may not be in the heyday, but claiming it's rapidly dying to a group of people that eat, breathe, and sleep this stuff and each have a garage full of junk devoted to the hobby is pretty entertaining. Magazines are absolutely dying a slow death, but those same magazines have been claiming the hobby is dying for 70+ years.

Most of the issue people seem to have is not the money, as Acme said it's the promises and claims that they're back to normal with evidence to the contrary. It's the dishonesty of the situation. We appreciate Steve is trying to keep it alive and want to see him succeed, but at a certain point people stop believing half-hearted promises.

To the best of my knowledge I've never bashed TRJ, not even a little. I was slightly chapped that I couldn't get an answer as to when my sub expired, when a gear shifted higher for them I got an answer. If I was a lottery winner I'd stake em.

I'm with @05snopro440 , rapidly dying? Then why can't I get a 36 3W all done for less than 20k? My answer to that is what dafuq ever, just quit now. Hobby? Not me, been nearly the basis of my whole life. Stamp collecting is a ****in hobby. This **** is a life choice.

I was one of the very first to subscribe to the lifetime offer and believe If I never see another issue I got my moneys worth, I'm still pulling for Steve and honestly believe TRJ is the best Hot Rod & Custom magazine to ever be published.

If I find a new issue in my mail box I will be over the moon, if not it's not the end of the world. HRP

Few here would argue whether or not they got their money’s worth. I don’t smoke, quit drinking decades ago but for sure I’ve spent plenty on **** dumber than car magazines. The money isn’t the issue, it’s the lack of communication, endless waits for a “quarterly” issue and very simply, why can’t he see this is a futile exercise?
Stick a fork in it, it’s done.

yeah man, obviously it’s a little more than a hobby, every single one of us could have paid our house off a long time ago with the money we have tied up in the junk we’ve hoarded…

we get it, you’ve dedicated your life to this.
I think it’s safe to say that we all have. Hence why we are all on a forum dedicated to a very specific interest.

We are literally nerds, just not about science and rocks…

also much like you, I’ve been around here for a long time so again, spare me the semantics.

lastly, look at the cars that are for sale these days.

the market is flooded with cars that have never been available in my lifetime.

Ive watched the values of these cars plummet,

I’ve got the nicest restored 40 convertible money can buy for sale for 40k, it’s a Dearborn winner and doesn’t have a modern nut or bolt on it. Absolutely perfect showroom condition and barely had a bite on it in a year.

Back in 2006 a hotrod shop I worked for had a guy bring in a 40 convertible that was a clean rust free roller and he paid 70k for it back then…

And that’s not even getting into how 70k in 2006 is worth roughly 112k in today’s money.

I’m just saying, no one is stoked about what’s happened with TRJ, but cmon man, it’s 2025, there’s WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY more things to be offended by than the fact that Steve is a **** communicator.

what I worry about happening is similar to
how back during COVID the Charlotte Motor Speedway screwed a bunch of people out of money for the auto fair, people have paid and didn’t reimbursed when the show got canceled.

    that ****s.

but what came out of it is a bunch of people boycotted the autofair and refused to go back because of it.

welp, guess where that leaves us?

you guessed it, a sp****ly populated swap meet that is barely worth going to.

oh and been to a KKOA show lately?

    or a good guys show?

    or lead east?

    yeah man. It’s a bummer.

Im one of the young guys and I'm almost 50.

Early ford guys are where the br*** era guys where in the 90’s.

so with that said, let’s try to make this the best that we can until it’s gone.

I want to savor every morsel that I can.

so as long as steve puts out TRJ I’m gonna keep buying it and being grateful that I can.

    because instagram and Facebook ****.

    I want print.

I know you all do too

  14. As the guy who started this thread purely to try & find out what was happening with The Rodders Journal it was never & is never my intention to bag the production of this great magazine....we all want it to continue, we all wish Steve good but from my perspective the main issue is the inconsistancies in the production scheduling..........I've just rec'd # 87 from the Oz distributor while who knows when or if my subscription copy will arrive and unfortunately this is the real issue with most of us..........I sincerely hope things get back to how it was prior to Covid or at least improve but I'm not overly hopeful..........I'll still buy the BEST hot rod magazine till I drop........Thank You Steve........Andy Douglas.
