Whats the most famous Kustom?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by cutthroat corps, Nov 2, 2010.

  1. Even though I'm a Munsters T.V. show collector. I have to say the Hirohata Merc
gets my vote. The T.V. cars are fun, but the serious customs are where it's at.

Well now, this is a question? !!!!!!! It's tough because its so easy to compare apples and oranges (or pears lol) if you aren't careful. I think all of you have sorted out the differences, ie show cars and rods, concept cars, etc. vs. true customs. Of all those, the Predicta has to be the ultimate in my opinion but is really a show or concept car. As to customs, whew.
Lets start with a short list and whittle it down.
Hirohata, famous, but only as a trendsetter, there ended up being hundreds of those.
El Matador, Cushenberry's best, not as good looking as Mark Mist by Wilhelm though, I don't think.
For the most part, 60's and 70's cars, too Garish.
There's Winfield's Jade Idol, maybe hard to beat in restrained paint, but huge.
The Marquis, close to perfect, but a few too many bullets and that side sweep should have begun and the front fender well, not before it, it slants the wrong way.
Adonis, great profile, lots of flash for the Alexander's but then its a 60's machine.
Jack Snyder's 56 Chevy, regularly driven, very clever, restrained yet flashy in the right places, but unsectioned tri 5 Chevies can get a bit stubby and thick in the waistline.
And then we get to a pair of 50 Oldsmobiles. The Polynesian by Valley Customs, simple classy, the shapes do the talking, and the Goulart Olds, very similar, but chunkier front and a bit more ornate. Not that that's bad. But, with customs I think the shapes are what is important and what is done to accent them, just enough without overpowering them. Actually, Herb Gary's 49 Plymouth is good, very good, but the continental kit and resultant rear fenders are just a bit overstretched.
Ultimately, taking the best of it all, the Polynesian does the best job of balancing everything that I have seen.
The winner: Valley Customs, The Polynesian.

Alot of the opinions are gonna be effected by voters tastes, and what they prefer . Some guys like the radical show customs ,some guys like the clean and simple smoothed and refined mild cars.Same with paint some like the cars simple ,some like wild. Some old school guys might not even qualify or consider some of Roths stuff ,what car did he customize ? He made his own body but it is a custom made body. I am gonna vote for the Moonglow Chevy.

In order to get the correct answer you must first agree to define the meaning of the word "kustom" once that's done go from there.
