    Can't beat the opener but...
I bought a '61 Chevy SS coupe in 1968 from a used car lot. Still had original HP 348 tri power, radio delete, but had been converted to 3 on the tree - floor had cutout for the original 4 speed. I put a Muncie in it and later a '64 HP 409. Sold it for wedding ring worth $900 at the time :-0

Car long gone, woman long gone. I do miss that car, though.

49 Merc convert. chopped 5-inches hirohata bodyline, airbagged, custom steel dash. It's in the Dec 07 issue of HotRod in the Project Garage section. I may sell it to invest elsewhere. we'll see..

  3. Ummm...daily driver for the last 5 years has been a 2002 SVT Focus. One of 1025. Used to have an '80 Corvette, Frost Beige with L48/4-speed; also one of about 1000.

I've driven a lot of not-too-common cars over the years...let's see:
1970 Torino Cobra SCJ429/4-speed (stupid college kid couldn't afford the $750 price in 1978)
1977? Lancia Beta Scorpion (dealer delivery from St. Louis to KC)
1970 AMX, 390/4-speed (see note about stupid college kid)
1966 Buick GS, 401/2-speed auto with "switch pitch" converter
    1968 Biscayne 4-door w/427/auto, ex-Hiway Patrol sleeper
1969 Baracuda coupe, one of (IIRC) 50 440 cars
1973 Buick Regal GS 455/4-speed (see note about...sigh)
    1970 'Cuda AAR, 340 6-pak/4-speed (see note...double sigh)
    Enough....

I hate to say it but you were a damn fool!
82 convertibles were made that year and very few are known left. They lost the hemi but some of them had Bendix electrojet fuel injection systems installed (but all were replaced with dual quads) if it was a Fuelie car it would be worth the $150K as you found it. There is only one known with the original fuel injection system found and re-installed.

Below are some pictures of that 58 Fuelie ragtop that is verified as an original and also the test buck for the install at the factory

Guy with the fuelie lives in Holliston or Hopkinton Mass, right? Didn't they find the fuel injection system in a crate in the back of a warehouse? I don't know where he bought his but I looked at that car in Auburn Mass, which is about 25 miles away.

The fuel injection system was found in the attic of the guy that took it off the car at the dealership in 1958 and took it home complete fuel line, pump, controls, intake and all. I do believe the guy traded a restored 1956 Chrysler convertible or similar car for the setup

  16. My rarest cars?
    I love odd balls.
In 1970 I owned a '68 Buick Grand Sport convertible, factory air, power seat and power windows. It was triple black with a factory installed 3 speed stick on the floor. Honest!
Before that, I owned a loaded light aqua colored '67 Olds Culass Vista Cruiser wagon, V8, all the power goodies and a 3 speed stick on the column.
At the same time my dad had a boat of a '65 Pontiac Catalina convertible, 389 wth a 2 barrell and a 3 speed column stick shift.
He later wised up and tore thru a bunch of Catalina 2 plus 2 coupes with 421's and 4 speeds and and a couple of automatics 2 plus 2's.
    My rarest find off all?
In 1966 while attending college in Massachustts I grabed a light blue '57 Chevy Bel Air 4 door hardtop to commute in.
It was loaded, power windows, power steering, power brakes, a power rear mounted antenna, powerglide automatic and factory insalled Rochester fuel injection.
I repainted the car all white in my senior year and threw away the powerglide when it gave out.
In it's place my buddys and I put a 3 speed Hurst shifted box into it.
I also put in a later 30/30 cam and solid lifters. I had a tuner named Bill Thomas cut the fuelie apart, he ported it out and then heliarced it back together. I went to later bigger 327 nozels in the spider and block assembly on the lower part of the manifold.
It went like stink and the mileage was pretty good too.
18-20 on the highway, 13-14 in the city.
I ran 3:36's in the rear end so top end was insane but it was sluggish rolling off the line.
Even in those years it was a rare bird!
I have a bunch of pictures of the odd ball '57 but I need someone to guide me thru the scanning and image down loading process.
I'm not very good at this new computer yet.

  17. Another rare one I had. I think it was around 1970 or maybe 1971 I swapped my dark blue '70 4 speed 442 even up for a kid's 67 Corvette coupe.
Get this........it was white with a black hood stripe and a GREEN interior.
I know, it sounds ugly but it gets real weird now.
It had tinted glass all around and factory installed side pipes with the bolt on aluminum tubine looking wheels. That helped in the looks department, but it gets stranger. It was a 390 horse 427 with a Powerglide 2 speed automatic and air conditioning.
Whoever ordered it new sure spec'ed out a rare odd ball 'Vette.
It was fun to drive though with the cools and the side pipes but that Powergide just sucked!
I tired of it soon and bought something else.
I often wondered whatever became of that one - off Corvette.

I live in Australia nad even owned a property in Western New south wales ( Condobolin) and although I have seen pictures of the earlier Mopar utes I have never seen one in the flesh. There are quite a few Wayfarer utes from the late 50's early 60's and in New Zealand a few were built as ambulances.
..and this one still has the rego stickers in the windscreen..thats naughty! you can get fined if the police see that....:D:D

  20. My first daily driver back in the '60s was a '55 Chevy Nomad wagon. A 120,000 mile chicago car.
It really was a rusted pile of metal. 1 of about 2,000. After I sold it, it was restored very nicely.

Today my daily driver is a 1992 GMC Typhoon. 1 of about 2,000 also, but it is the second one I've owned.

Many would say my '31 Ford Vicky street rod is rare, but there were about 33,900 built, so it is not my rarest car.

The cops here in Grimes Iowa USA did not know that I was not supposed to have those stickers on the window and I am sure the new owner in Daveport Iowa will confuse the local police force along with all the local car collectors with it.

Guess I will have to stick to confusing them with my Desoto UTE

  25. Rarest car's we have now are a '65 GT350 and a '57 Chevy 210 Sport Coupe. Very few 210's were made in the "post-less" sport coupe body style. This one was called "Inbomber" and won H/Stock at the 1968 NHRA Nationals. I had a early production 1928 Model A AR a few years back that was pretty rare too.

54 corvette serial #20. there were 300 53's made and I had the 20th 54. so that made it the 324th built. when I joined NCRS they said it was the earliest known 54. sold it to a guy in NY in 83.

Not me...but my dad restored and owns a 1932 Buick Series 92 convert. Not a huge deal. But this car was the car that was sent to the Worlds Fair in Paris in the 30's to represent all american cars of the time. It also has been a Pebble Beach 100 pointer and has held up its senior badge for the past 10 years. Sorry no pics....I own nothing special..haha

The rarest car I've owned was not a car at all, but rather a truck. A '47 Studebaker M 5.
I guess not even that rare, but the rarest I've owned anyway.
I finally got around to scanin so here's a couple of pics.
