I have a '66 Coronet station wagon. 1 year off from the HAMB, but still rare, albeit not from production numbers. You just don't see 'em anymore!

the rarest car I've owned is not the most desirable. It's a 65 dodge 880 wagon - top of the line for 65 - 413ci, special order color, UV tint windows, translucent optional steering wheel w/ tilt, AC, PW, roofrack & woodgrain paneling. It's currently in the back yard waiting for some love. There's only 4 registered in the chrysler registry last time I looked - but that doesn't mean much.

Desirable and rare (non HAMB cars) would be my old 59 23 window VW bus w/ factory safari windows, or 69 charger R/T 4sp or 67 gtx.

1930 Cadillac V16, 1958 Chrysler 300D, 1961 Imperial Conv, Amphicar + some other oddball stuff (Fuldamobil, Kissel, 1903 Buckmobile). Still have most of 'em.

The 1912 AC 3 wheeled delivery box has to be the rarest vehicle I've owned aside from the one off race cars. I started to restore it, but something caused me to put it up for sale. One of the most memorable events in the hobby was selling it to the right guy, and seeing it on the show field at Hershey. Far better restoration than I could have given it, it has a great home now. When you look at this three wheeled one cylinder tiller steered box on wheels the last thing you think it is related to is a 427 powered Cobra........but it was the Cobra's grandfather. AC is short for Auto Carrier.

1954 Swallow Doretti 2 Litre Sports. The same thing Max Balchowski put a nailhead in and raced before the Ol' Yallers. 276 built, about 110 left. Common as dirt in this crowd.

My 71 Dodge crew cab long bed (160" wheelbase) is my rarest, then factor in that it was loaded to the gills with every option except the upgraded insturment cluster. 486 total built. I'm planning a 500" wedge,727 with a gearvendors OD for it. The DB roadster is far cooler though!

  7. !957 Chevy 210 4 door hardtop with 283,Powerpac, Posi and a padded dash option. I think we tracked it down to on of 300. They actually made less 4 dr HT that year than Nomads as it was.

I'm still sick from selling my 57 Mercury Commuter 2 door hardtop station wagon. It was black and red, 312 with a Merc-o-matic, and a great driver. Not positive on production numbers, but not many made. No where near as rare as some of the others posted, fun post though.

1968 Abarth 1000 OTS (based off the Fiat 850 coupe). No one really seems to know how many were really made but speculation is about 110 of all years. Others are a 1934 Lancia Augusta and I have 3 Alfa Guilia spiders (common here, there were over 9,000 made during the production run) and one Guilietta spider.

I have a 1972 Fiat 128 wagon too (I think if it hasn't been burned up in the fires). This car was not so rare when it was made but it's really rare now.

PS: I think they made more than 500 Lancia Zagatos. Something more around 2,600 I believe.

  14. I had a 1961 Falcon Sedan Delivery, followed by a 1960 Mercedes Benz 190SL. Neither one extremely rare, but you didn't see yourself on every corner, either. Both were a blast to drive (the Falcon had a built 300 inline 6 and Mustang underpinnings).
A few years ago I inherited my great-uncle's Harley Davidson bicycle, c.1921. He was the original owner. My daughter learned to ride on an Indian Princess bicycle, c.1930. How many of those have you seen?

Yep, They had the Beta Sedan, Coupe, Zagato (spider for some folks) and the Scorpion (Montecarlo). The Scorpion was the rarest in the US with 1,761 (could be off one or two) imported.

Nowadays, the sedan is the rare one. That's a good thing because the are really ugly and look like fat Chevettes.

    That Lomabardi is pretty cool.

You'd think someone in this crowd would have had one of the ISOs, which fit in the rare list.

  16. Not really cool at all, but......

1955 Ford 8 door sedan (airport limo?) Originally red out/red-black in, 292 3 spd. I was told less than fifty 8 doors built? Who knows.

I WILL get it on the road someday

A 1946 Standard-Triumph model 4-8A. Still have it, have owned it for probably 30 years. Looks like an Anglia but it's smaller. When i bought it I was going to restore it, now I'm planning on rodding it-if it ever makes it to the top of the projects-to-actually-work-on list.

  20. Wish I still had my 1968 Camaro RS convertible.327 with a glide. Got caught driving it with no drivers licence or insurance.......

Sometimes I wish I still had my '33 Buick 90 Series Victoria, a fairly rare car with omly 556 being made. It was, and is, a full blown classic according to the CCCA and the AACA. Of course, I'm quite sure that neither of those organizations would approve of what I did to their baby. Custom built frame to carry its 138" wheelbase and hold its 455" Buick with Turbo 400 and Ford rear. It had a M11 frontend. The body was channeled and the top was chopped. The interior was leather from front to back. Altogether a beautiful car. But, it was a love/hate relationship that got me to the point that I sold it to a guy outside Detroit who drives the piss out of it and never has a problem! Why couldn't that have been me? I, most likely, would still own it given that type of performance.

Anyway, I guess that car qualifies for rare.

'69 Z-28 camaro factory 4 spd race car, ordered from nickey chevrolet where they swapped the original dz302 for 427& a M-22. the car came a factory "white" car all stripped down (no radio or accesories ect). from nickey it went to bill jenkins for a roll bar (he was involved with SRD chassis then) and suspension mods (leaf floaters & rear end stuff). it ran here in PA undeer the name "the dilly bar" , the owner had a dairy queen stand. he ran it till @ 72 then sold it and it sat. I found it in a barn and bought it for $2000 with it's last racing history still painted on it, joe lepone jr and jenkins competition on the hood and fenders.
the car still had the original gold "certificate or origin" from nickey chevy, it was never titled only raced the original odometor had 175 miles on it. i was gonna restore it but didn't have the correct 427/trans or the money at the time so I sat on it for a few years and reluctantly sold it for $3500 as a roller with history and paperwork. the car has since been restored as a factory nickey race car and has even won it's class out at hershey.
    wish I had it now:confused:

It's been a while since I owned the car but If I recall correct, The Black and gold ones like I had where some sort of special edition that basically amounted to a trim package. I believe this is the model that was built in low production numbers. Also mine was an 82 not an 88 like I stated.

'63 Pontiac Tempest Station Wagon, the one with half a 389 and the transaxle. That car was a pain in the ass. That's the rarest I've owned.

I have a pile of parts I'm collecting to build a Tommy Ivo styled front engine dragster with a T-bucket body.

That means my car is even rarer than the staple-man's one-off. It's so rare, it hasn't even been built yet!

    There, top that.

No, wait, my wife has us all beat. Her car is so rare she's never considered building it and can't understand why anyone would want too. Mine may not have been biult yet, but hers will never be built. Oooooh . . . Now that's rare. ;) :D

I have a 1926 Henney Hearse/Limousine, and a 1950 Jowett Jupiter. Not sure which one is more rare, but they're as rare as my budget can afford...

I had this a couple years ago, it's a '68 Avenger GT, old 60's kit car. Looked really neat, was tiny, wish I'd have kept it, but you can't keep them all.

In 1975 I bought a weathered complete 36 ford humpback conv sedan for $500, put it right on Old Cars Weekly and took the first cash offer of $1000 to be able to make up the last of the total down payment on my first house.

In 1991, I bought a running 1936 english Austin Taxi with folding rear top for $4000 and put it in the same O.C.W paper and got $5000. Come to find out later that it is very rare as most were destroyed in the WW2 Blitz.
