not mine but a friend of mine has a 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone with a factory 289 4bbl automatic trans and if the information is right its 1 of 2 produced that year

he also took both the engine and trans out and has made it a gasser.

1956 oval-window bug. European-market "standard" model, most likely brought back by a soldier.

Kinda borderline rare, I mean there's always ton of ovals at VW shows but otherwise you hardly ever see them.

Most of my rare cars have been non-HAMB approved models, but I'll share my 2 favorites. I had a 75 Volvo coupe for a good long while. This one was from the first 10 months of production when they were using up the last of the 2.0L pushrod motors before they started using the OHC engines. Add the fact that it was a coupe, never a very popular body for bricks, and it was in pretty rarified air. Slow as hell though, no matter how neat that pushrod motor was.

The other one I had a soft spot for was my 1980 Honda Accord. I'm not sure how rare they were back in the day, but they are like hen's teeth now. Mostly because the motors are pieces of crap that don't last. I replaced the head, then the carb, then the fuel pump... it kept going until I gave up and sold it. It was absolutely mint though.

I have a 1952 Split Window beetle that I have restored and is on display in my living room. Also a 1958 Toyopet Crown second oldest known in the US. My 1932 Hot Rod Lincoln V12. Next is my 1958 NSU Prinz which will be a Hot Rod as well. The split window VW in these pictures was when the car was been restored as the running board are missing on the picture. You can see the car on my website as well as other cars I have owned over the years.

    Thanks

There were only 6600 of my plymouth built (2 dr sedan). My dad has a '47 Caddy Series 61 2 door fastback that I believe is pretty rare as well.

1991 Buick Reatta Convertible. 1 of only 185 sold, a little of 200 built.

    Sold it 3 years ago.

  16. I still have dad's '72 Corvette Lt-1 convertable, 1 of 1741.

It's red, factory air, black deluxe (leather) interior and M22 4 speed.

I don't remember how it all brakes down but if memory serves it comes down to something like 1 of 18 or less.

Man, the memories in that car! After he quit driving it, any time he got feeling a little grumpy he'd go out and fire it up and lay a couple of 40' black marks up the driveway, head around the block to the Hwy., run it hard through the gears and shut it down just in time to turn back up the road to the house. Instant attitude adjustment, he always had a big grin on his face when he came back. I can still hear that roar followed by a loud bark all the way through 4th gear. Sometimes I'd even get to go with him. Man, I miss those day's.

When I was 19-21 I had a 63 Olds F85 Jetfire that had a turbo on the 215 engine. It was SLOW so I pulled the turbo setup & installed a factory 4bl intake w/ an AFB. It ran much better. I now realize the turbo was probably seized up. I was just a DA kid at the time & didn't know any better. I ran the snot out of that car & it never let me down except it broke a ball joint once while riding around with my GF. I traded it in on a 68 Road Runner which got me into a lot of trouble, but that's another story. I've often wondered what became of that Olds.

'69 Firebird built by the T/A Pontiac race team, one of 6 or 7 ever.
Lots of unique steering and suspension parts, not to mention the full chrome moly cage. It's just a good old race car.

Currently I own a 66 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible, 383 4-speed car. One of 182 made, most people buying a Convertible opted for a smaller engine and not the high end trim package, and certainly not a 4-speed. My wife's 67 Coronet 500 Convertible, 383 Automatic is one of around 1800 or so, but it is in a one year only color, medium copper, with matching one year only copper color interior.

Long gone is my Meyers Manx, this was one of the kits designed for Corvair and not VW using Corvair drivetrain and suspension. I have never seen another and wish I still had mine. Mine used the 150 HP Spyder turbo motor.
I had a 65 International Scout, with the factory turbocharged 4 banger too.

  24. Hmmmmm, My last post on this thread was page 7. Just remembered the only Japanese car i ever had. A rare one now i think. 1967 or 1968 Honda S800 sportscar with the 4 carbs and twin chains to the rear wheels. Man that would rev high.

It's funny you should mention that Honda S800. I watched the Turkish GP on the DVR at lunch the other day, tacked to the end of the recording was a "My Classic Car" segment with Jay Leno and his Honda S800. Neat little car!

  29. Split window bugs are so cool. First one I ever saw was at Harrah's auto museum in 1974. It may have been a '49?
