We have a local guy in Tucson that has his frame rail practically sitting on his tie rod. YOu can see the rub marks. When he hits a bump, no steering.........

I see lots of guys with too severe of an angle on their steering u-joints and even top builders that have the steering shaft rubbing on the headers.

In todays 4 disc brake light weight ricer world, not running front brakes on a hot rod is a good plan for a rear ender and a law suit.

Just in case that fails, we have a brass skid plate. Or radiator.

And, to top it off, the generator is mounted on the frame and the adjuster is on the motor. Guess the fan belts doubles as a motor mount shock absorber. LOL.

but it does have a cotter pin the the tie rod, that makes up for the dry rotted tire , the empty brake drum, but NOT for the ugly ass home made steering arm! Who gets off building this dangerous crap?

OK I have seen a lot of this on late 50s stock cars usually with a stove pipe for a collector!

Also featuring the standard-issue throttle chain...from a toilet.
I am not sure how the piano-wire looking thing running back from the linkage over the side of the cowl fits into this thing...
Is that the 'ol electrical-tape shock boot I see, too?
Looks like it has brake lights, at least...

Was thinking of posting a couple of stupid things I found on cars I've bought over the years, but couldn't even come close to this stuff...

  21. Now don't go coppying the idea of a wood screw down the middle of the spring pack now.

  22. Did you wonder how he even bled the rear brakes with the spring shackel welded over the back of the wheel cylinder ? Those rear rods after being wrapped all the way around the rear end housing were welded to some all thread. The altenator on this was mounted on the frame rail too, by the way it did have a Hurst mount on the front of the engine.

I need more info on this...I'm lost as to how this is supposed to function, and, honestly, its not even THAT crude looking, as far as how it was done, but I don't understand how this is supposed to function...I see lever-shocks, o.k., fine...But maybe its the angle of the pic, or whatever, but what is coming from under the bone/bottom heim joint, and is that attached to the frame???! How is the suspension supposed to move independently of the frame??? What is the spring mounted to??? Is THAT the tie rod right up against the spring???
I'm lost...Any more shots of this?

    This thing is AMAZING.
    Hands down...no contest...
    A highwater mark in horrible.
    Just wow.
    Still reeling.

  25. When I was about 14 years old (about 1975) my grandfather passed away and my Dad got to keep his 64 Chevy Nova 4 door. Apparently the fuel pickup inside the tank clogged at some point, so Grandpa rigged a jerry can on the back passenger's side floor pan and drilled a hole in the floor for the fuel line!!! The first couple of times that my Dad stopped for gas we got strange looks from everyone else in the gas station. Fortunately my Dad took it apart as soon as the weather got nice, spent a whole ten minutes cleaning the pickup, and got it working PROPERLY again. (OK, it wasn't a "rod" but it was still darn scary!)

  26. Apparently that bar under the heim joint runs under the frame and keeps the bars parallel. The shock absorber mounting is actually similar to the Plymouth Prowler. They have a funky "rocker arm" system to actuate their shock absorbers mounted near the center of the car too. I'll dig around for a photo.

That shock absorber rocker looks similar in concept to the formula race cars, or do my eyes deceive me?

O.K., that was my other presumption on that bar...I've seen shock systems like this too, on Sprint cars??? I think...dirt cars, anyway...but my thinking is that bar going under the frame looks awfully close ALREADY to the frame rails....what happens during suspension travel/spring compression??
