I am no engineer but some of these pics are awesome to wonder if these people should actually be able to drive anything!

I just remembered another one: back in the late '70's, gas was getting expensive, and one local figured that he could save gas by disconnecting the secondaries on his vacuum-secondary Holley fourbarrel. For those who don't know, the little plunger connected to the secondaries CLOSES the secondaries, it doesn't open them! The engine vacuum is what sucks them open. He made it about 100 yds, stomped on the gas pedal, the throttle hung open and he stuffed his prize Nova street racer into an underpass abuttment at full throttle.

Wheelies, haha yeah right! I think that thing was originally from NY, used to be metallic yellow/green? Either that or it looks just like it...

yep, i believe that is the same one, i saw metallic greenish paint under the flaking flat black

funny, when i saw pictures of it green a few years back, i thought it looked badass, but the green somehow hid how bad it actually was?? i was scared to even stand near it!

I don't know, I thought it always looked pretty scary! The front radius rod mounts used to be a couple nuts on some allthread running through a tab with two rough cut chunks of tire rubber on either side. Can't tell if the new owner remedied that from the pics. I don't think that it saw much highway use, but I could be wrong.

I picked up a fiberglass t-bucket in a package deal years ago. The night I picked the cars up I drove the car down the alley and around the corner to put it on the trailer. The front end was loose and the Rebuilt engine had a bad noise. In the light of day  The crankshaft moved back and forth over a 1/4 inch. The front end was held together with nails through the cotter pin holes in lieu of nuts. Most disturbing was the "Heim joints" on the front end. They were threadall rod bent a a 90 degree angle. The guy bragged how the car wasn't finished but he did drive it around town.

  12. I was at a show in MD one time and saw a work-in-progress channeled '32 Chevy coupe. The guy had done a nice job cutting and fabbing the floorboard, which was apparently securely attached to the frame, BUT... the body was supported and attached to the floorboard with 6 hardware store 3" L brackets like you use to reinforce a chair or shelf--two at the firewall, two at the front door jamb, and two at the rear door jambs. Then the guy opened the trunk lid...supporting the weight of the rear of the body he had four 8" concrete blocks, two on each side, stacked between the floor and the panel between the back window and trunk lid.

Important electrical education here, boys and girls: Note that the heater gets the coarse thread because heating things with warm water is crude. The radio gets the fine thread because of the fine electronics in the stereo system.

This material will be on the final exam.

I was still a kid and didn't know how screwed up this was till later, but a relative bragged about replumbing all the brake lines on an early Vette with soft copper tubing to keep it from rusting again. Said it was real easy to bend and route where they wanted it to go........ lol

Can't remember seeing any of them in the obituaries. Maybe someone else got the car soon after. Hope they bragged about their idea so the next owner could fix it.............

  18. in the early 70's I traded into a full fendered 32 Chevy 3 window with a nailhead. they had taken out the semi elliptics in the rear and splatter welded a Ford cross spring that was only 4 leaves. since it wasn't high enough, they put pieces of wood in between the leaves to raise it. the engine mounts were angle iron cut at a 90 degree and bolted to the un-boxed rails. the crank pulley was ridding on the front cross member because the rails flexed. it had a 38 Buick top shifter trans that was converted to open drive shaft somehow, so it leaked like an old Harley. it only had front brakes, drum, which made it exciting to stop. I lived through it though.
saw an old race car 34 where they welded galvenized pipe inside the rails instead of boxing them
saw an A body on a 49 Ford chassis. the clutch and brake pedels were switched

  19. My friend went to Florida in November and in some of his pictures was what looked like a nice 34 or so Chevy 3-window coupe rod, with like 1980-ish Corvette wheels on it.

It had such a bad abortion of a subframe job the whole front of the car was angled up, I think the front of the hood was at least an inch and a half higher than the back. I'd be afraid to look under it. Especially since one of the fenders was cut to clear the frame rails.

The vintage 1978 "Billy" beer cans are a nice touch.

I picked up a the new CKD and their is an article on a 29A pick-up.... No driveshaft tunnel and Coca Cola trays for half ass floorboards......... So much for responsible journalism

  21. The only peice of this pile of parts that made any wheelies was these front tires? yea right after came off that HARLEY. says so right on them and they appear to be rears.

I'm not a tire manufacturing expert but I know someone who is and that tire is not made to take sidewall loads in turns the way a car steers. That tire is made to lean way WAY on its side to complete a turn. They work on dragsters to go straight and even the old rails wheels would lean, shit they almost flopped when they turned for pit manuvers so as not to tear them up. WOW

  22. Damn!! so that's how you do it !!! Thanks, Mike

  24. Scene re; rego is strict enough here for low horror show & I didn't see the first one of these-
Mate's Powerglide exploding and taking out the sunroof. Walk away.
-Uni joint letting go and taking out a slick
    @ 150 m.p.h. Cuts & bruises- walk ( shuffle) away. Car trashed.
P.S. Keep those old floor mounted H/Light dipswitches clean. Mine had dirt/ dust in it - hit the beams one night - W.T.F! pitch black- glad no traffic & knew the road- sheesh...
