Technical What's the story on Pruned Blowers?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Apr 17, 2021.

  1. The blower does not know what it is being used on. They are normally sourced by volumn needed/desired. The larger (by volumn not physical size) have become more desirable for street motors because they do not produce as much heat when pushing the same amount of air as the smaller units. By comparrison thing 4/71 GMC V 6/71 GMC.

As for why cases get pruned the only real reason I could ever come up with (and I have spent lots of hours in my life chatting with men who started playing cars and motorcycles in the '20s and '30s) was or is asthetics. Perhaps the exception here would be when putting a roots style blower on an inline engine, one may prune one in this app to slim things down and have less hangine out on the side of the engine.

    I pruned my 3-71 because I built my own blower intake and I am a “cheap bastard” I used 4 studs with matching holes in the intake—-from what I have read the bolts only need 8-10-12 ft lbs. x. 4 studs 51BA70F5-566E-4115-A601-9F7BA9C56DC9.jpeg 789A1832-D314-4836-ABDF-1F95343BB6DB.jpeg 9E81F1D1-65A2-4ECE-B4A1-88D47731663D.jpeg 33F746EA-D0D9-4F9F-BF2D-1F1EB44BC168.jpeg 573C1B29-F860-4237-B08A-CA9A1D7E9F0F.jpeg BE50625B-8EB6-4412-BF2F-26F30E812C22.jpeg DF2ED3EE-7FA7-4413-B150-9B3BF5B2F639.jpeg 7612C6D1-50E5-4F2F-A1A6-492CA096FFFA.jpeg

Correct and on a flathead like mine, the pruned blower aesthetically is a lot tidier, doesn't interfere with water necks (it gets close in there) and I can remove the intake without unbolting the blower. I am not positive if that would be possible otherwise.
