I scored a pretty clean '29 Chevy cowl to day at a swap meet. I'm gonna build a skinny little modified w/new Iron Duke (literally, I took out of the crate), a 4 speed, Ford axles front and rear. But I need a good baseline wheelbase. I'm pretty huge at 5'10" and 150 lbs. So, it's gonna be small. I was thinkin' anywhere from 88" yo 100". The Peter Beater was 104" and it seemed long to me. Help me out.
Mine has a 99.5" wheelbase. It's a '27 touring front half (sorta) with quarter elliptic front setup, about 29" through the hood.
On my modified , it has a 97" wheel base now, but thinking of a spring behind the front axle, which will stretch it 5-6" to around 103-104".
I built my own frame for my Lakes Modified. 1926 Ford roadster pickup bucket. The wheel base is 96 inches. Four inch droped front axle, 1934 Ford rear axle. The hood is about 33 inchs. With your four cylinder engine you could be a little shorter. The reason the hood is a little long is almost any engine could be installed.
Got some pics? I'm really leaning toward shorter.....prolly 94". It's gonna be a skinny little single seater with the shifter right at yer crotch. I might even run a narrower front axle and get a banjo narrowed. Small, small, small.
96", Iron Duke, Building a nicer one, 98"or so, with an IronDuke from a midget, wth a Muncie. Make a nice, well balanced little car.
Mine is 99 inch, model A chassis, front axle is 18 inches forward, 1/4 springs, rear is 22 inches forward,1/4 springs, I'm 6' 2", gettin in and out aint fun but its ok while driving.
