I found this 29 A coupe about 2 miles from my house and I'm gonna make they guy an offer to try and score it. What would you guy's offer. I see the price's of these coupe's are all over the map. I was thinking somewhere like 4k. Does that sound reasonable? Rust not to bad it has a motor but not the original, and is not complete.

Thanks for the info,This would be my first shot at an A. The guy told me it was a 29 but I was wondering about the spare tire mount on the board's,and not the back bupmer.

  5. The body is 30-31, the grille and the front fenders appear to be 28-29. Throw $2500-$3000 at him and see if he bites.

Yeah I've seen running and driving car's for a few grand more. That might be a better option. I just wanted to do some research and Thank God for the H.A.M.B.er's.

i would think that you'd be doing well to get that for 4k, its a fair offer though, but i've seen ones like that for up to around 6k....just my opinion!

only one way to find out dude,

and as has been written here many times before......go with the $$$$ in you pocket....otherwise in the owners eyes you're just a timewaster.
    good luck!

p.s the one in my avatar cost $3300

$2,000 is an insult and just might get you an invitation to leave and not come back. Check the calender, 1980 was a long time ago.

Have the cash in your pocket and start around 3000.

  11. One dollar for every day, since it was new. Give or take a few bad days, that will be worth less than a dollar, maybe.

I'd offer 3 G's see what he says. If you could get it for 4 that would be great. I wouldn't go over that if I was you. JMO Don't know how deep your wallet is..... Good Luck what ever your choice is.

Thanks for the help. That's what I was thinking too!

  15. No problem. There's an old man around here that has a cut down '30 sedan, and that's what he says it's worth, if he were to sell it. So, a coupe might even go for a few extra bucks a day. You never know.

Well scratch that idea. I just talked to the guy and he won't go below 5k. I offered up to 4 and he shot it down. 5 might be an alright price but I don't need it that bad. I'll wait and find a deal that makes me really happy. Thanks for all that helped.

Assuming it's in California, I figure it's worth around $6,000.

I bet you get a P.M. before the day is gone from someone wanting to know where its at for five.
Someone that really wants one wont let a thousand dollars to much stand in the way of buying it.
If it isnt worth it now it will be later.

This car is showing 4 years or parts, over two body generations, what exactly is it?

Got title? Has the VIN been checked? Will he unbolt the body and lift it up to reveal the VIN?

These are important questions for any A or other car with a hidden VIN, especially in California, but generally everywhere.

    Forewarned is for-armed. Don't buy a nightmare.

Are you joking? If I was selling that car and you asked me to unbolt the body and lift it off the frame I would tell you to take a hike.

Well, that is where the only VIN is on a Model A. It would have matched the engine number when it left the factory, but by now, who knows. Would you buy a car without seeing the actual VIN?

In California, for various reasons, your car might be subject to a VIN verification, by the DMV or by California Highway Patrol. This is NOT an option if you are ordered to do so. They will require you to unbolt the body and jack it up to show them. Try telling a cop to take-a-hike.

Yeah, it sucks, but it is a legitimate issue for rodders in California.

I did ask him about the title and he said it's titled as a 29 and it's not the number on the engine, so I would be taking a chance. That's one of the reason's I'm gonna pass.If it was 2k I would take the chance but like I said I've seen running and driving cars for the 7 to 8k range. So I think I'll just kep looking. Thanks again for all the help guy's. HAMBers rule!!!

  24. You should see the pieces of shit I've sold for not a whole lot less, to guys who were happy to pay the money, if you think $5000 is too much for that. Not to mention ones I've seen other guys sell.

Depending on the condition of the front most left cowl mount sometimes you can see some or all of the serial number without pulling the body. It helps to hit the spot with some cheap spray paint, then wipe, so it collects in the stamp.

But it looks to me like someone had a '29 and put a '30-'31 body on it. Which could have been done at any point since the mid-30's or so.

one day i was on ebay and i found a nice 31 coupe about 5 min from my house. i have seen the car a million times, but never knew it was for sale. when i talked to the guy he said he has had it on the local radio swap and shop for 2 years for 6000 a good if not great price for the car, i would have bought it right away at 6000. on the ebay the price started at 6000 and when all was said and done it ended at 10,500.
i didnt get the car and still get mad when i think about it. if you have the money and the car is something you can handel to work on make a deal and dont look back.

Exactly, if you have the money, and it is what you want, don't hesitate. BUY IT.

Depending on if its running/driving what engine it has 5K sounds reasonable. What engine does it have?

5k seems like an average-ish price for that car. 4k would be a good deal. i figured the guy probably knew what it was worth.

I paid $9,000.00 for my 30 A coupe, restored, rust free, and driving. Sold every thing and kept the body, after the dust settled I had sold all the parts for just over $9,000.00. The body was FREE! Dont pay more than that.
