When I turn them on one goes left and one goes right (as they should) but they don't stop! Each wiper goes off the edge of the windshield and bangs into the body! I have the correct Newport electric wiper motor. When I remove the wipers, the heads rotate and stop where they should. It seems as soon as I install the wipers, the added weight throws them off and they go off the windshield. This is the drivers side at rest....... This is the drivers side at full travel....... With the wipers installed, the arm continues to rotate up and all the way around! Here's the Newport unit at rest........ There's a small adjusting screw on the motor and I've adjusted it both ways......no joy. What am I missing? The only thing I can think of is to weld a small tab to the cowl to stop the arm from rotating up and around. But, I shouldn't have to do that. Any ideas??
I agree. Looking at the before and after pics, the arms are flipped. The straight ends need to be attached to the wiper pivot and the hockey stick end to the motor
The linkage arms only go on one way. Here's a pic of the original factory linkage and vacuum motor......
Are you sure you have the wiper arms on the correct side. Looking at the first pic and at the pic of the stock setup - it looks like the right side arm should be on the right side of the arm off the motor and you have it at the left side of the arm of the motor when everything is at rest.
Everything is matched up exactly the way it came off the car originally. Here's my temporary (permanent?) fix. Kinda Mickey Mouse but it seems to work fine now. The car will rarely (if ever) be driven in the rain so, I'm gonna move on. On a side note, I just replaced my entire engine control wiring harness and the car runs flawlessly! Quick too! I've been driving it around all week. Oh yeah....the EPS is to die for! I need to update my build thread.
I had mine sorted out before the dash went back in. Which proved to be a wise move. I really should have taken a couple of pictures first.
Electric Power Steering. Here's my write-up........ https://www.hotrodders.com/threads/electric-power-steering-install-in-a-54-ford.526435/#post-4739217
Fixed it. Screwed in a sheet metal screw, tack welded it, cut off the head and covered with a rubber vacuum cap. Works great!
