Have run a few ads locally for parts to sell-same stuff-dumb questions, no shows, etc.--finally gave them all to a guy who deals in this stuff-same thing last year for a bunch of trifive stuff-finally had enough and threw them in the weekly trash bin.
Here's a different deal--had a guy come and buy a mint restored 40 dash-asked if I would install it in his car--I declined and he paid for it and said he would come back and get it ?? Have called him twice and it's still here after 2 years-even offered to return his funds and he said he would be right over--that was 2 months ago.

Hey gator I got a 59 Desoto Firedome Sportsman I was thinking about listing on CL, how many people forgot what that looks like. Maybe I'll charge 1.00 for a peek? After reading this thread I think I just keep it.

i have experience this. but with a old tube orgon.. guy paid for it ) 600.00 ), then never showed up 4 years later i took it to good will. as no one seems to want a cool tube orgon.. and i only play guitar so it was of no use to me.. i did think about gutting the speakers and tubes but thought why ruin such a cool instrument.

I had a guy a couple of months ago come and crawl all over a tractor I had for sale. He insisted on me getting the charger out to get it started, get all the spares for it out of the shed, drove it up and down, played with the oil levels, ****ed his teeth and try to knock the price down. Eventually agreed to the price I was originally asking and shook my hand agreeing to come back to collect it next day with the money. He called later that day to say he has changed his mind as he thinks he might have found one a bit cheaper. Then asked if I minded!!! I did mind but didn't seem to have much choice in the matter. Worse part is I have known him for years and held him in high regard. Just shows how people change when there is money involved!

I have regretted buying plenty of things, but have never backed out of a deal.

I get a lot of "will you take payments?"
My answer is ... "yes, ONE."

If they seem to be nice and we had intelligent conversation my polite answer is...
"yes, I accept 100% down and NOTHING per month"

I once had a guy fly in from Oregon to here in Co to pick up my '66 DeVille ragtop that he bought on flee-Bay. He showed up in a cab ready to drive it home. One problem, he didn't ask nor notice where in BIG RED LETTERS my auction clearly stated "DOES NOT RUN!" He was pissed! He wanted me to refund his expenses and discount HIS bid as he thought bid on a running car. I reminded him that because he did not read the ad completely, I was not at fault here. I gave him a ride into town where he rented a truck and trailer. Not even a thank you from that douchebag. I slept real well that night laughing myself to sleep.

After about 10 minutes of a tire kicker, whether on a car or part, I simply tell them, buy it or leave. I don't have time for this ****....
And I do leave if they don't buy it...
Your post is correct, way too many wanabes out there.
    Cheers........

That IS funny...and exactly the kind of stuff BiG-JIM and most of us are talking about...a complete disregard for others. Not bashing cr or any other useful venue...lots of good people use it...but plenty of goofballs too. It used to piss me off a bit, but became a joke...I laugh now. (but through gritted teeth sometimes...lol) Best to take the bad with the good, as a previous poster said. You can take certain steps to ward off some of 'em, but you can't avoid it completely. Just remember that eventually, a real buyer will come along and do exactly as he says, with no bs...and it goes like ****er.

Just sold a '46 Buick. Had a few duds, but then a real buyer came and got it. Afterward, I came in the house, and my wife said, "That was fast". I told her that's how it goes when both parties are serious and prepared. Helped that the car was driveable, and didn't need to load it on a trailor or gather a bunch of loose parts. He had the money, I had the paperwork ready, no bs, done.

Watch for indicators. By that, I mean if a prospective buyer/seller is an idiot in even a small way in any instance, chances are that you've got a dud. If I suspect that, I start pressing them a little...respectfully, but firmly. Still doesn't help sometimes though...lol.

Lots of good stories here--years ago I had a nice 57 210 that I was playing with. A friend (I thought) and a High level Supervisor where I worked bugged me for some time to sell him the car. I finally consented and gave him a good deal- a week later he called and said his wife doesn't like it and wanted his money back-told him to return it and refunded his money--never had any respect for him after that--another friend heard about the whole mess and bought the car and drove it for many years-people can be strange.
