My engine has been gold for a couple years, and now it's gold and black. That's ok, it'll cover up the orange peel?
My '55 Merc 292 was originally gold. I think there were 2 colors for them in '55 - gold and green. I like the gold, and wanted to keep it close to original ORIGINAL (oilsoaked 50+ year old goldish green): RESTORED with '57 312 intake:
Gold was probably popular with old show cars cuz it looked really good with a fresh set of gold colored carbs. And also a bunch of the anodized aluminum trim pieces in the early '60's were gold colored. And it looked good with pretty much whatever color you decided to paint the car. Just a thought.
