    "......old ratty rods" ?????

I'm not trying to be a wise guy or a smart *** and I don't want to come across as being pejorative, but in all sincerity, I'd advise you to step back and follow the threads posted here for a while, before speaking up. A wise man once said something to the effect that it's better to keep your mouth shut and let everybody think you're a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it.

I don't believe anybody on this board spends hour, upon hours in their shops, not to mention the money involved, to build "ratty old rods". If you mean "traditional hot rods, as were made in the 40's-early 60's and built to the highest standards of our abilities, as best we can, then you belong here and welcome. If you REALLY want to build a "ratty rod" ****-box, maybe you should move on.

    Jus my 2¢

  5. Well it don't look rattier just lower.

I guess where I'm at is at least it aint flat black with red wheels. I'd ask for more info on the build but I'm sure that it would start a firestorm of some sort.

As far as ratty old rods let me make an ***umption what you really mean is more traditional as opposed to "billity high zoot" right? its all just a matter of semantics.

Don't mind the flamming too much this is minor compaired to days gone by. if you're thick skinned enough to fit in with this bunch of " hoodlums" (and we are) hang out and learn everything you can. Build yourself a jalopy, or beater or whatever you want to call it, when your done and have had as much fun as you can stand build another.:D

You'll probably be alright, or not time will only tell.

What ever you do don't thank me for being nice, I'm not. As a matter of fact I'm an old oppinionated SOB and I probably won't like a damned thing about your ride. But don't leave because of that show some MOXY.

Yep..here we go again..IMHO "ratty rod" kind of grew out of the barn find one-up-manship..someone had the good fortune to find something cool stashed away, and was able to crow to their buddies"Check it out, all I had to do was plugs and bleed the brakes and oil, runs great I'm going to leave it just like it is"..that started a sort of compe***ion..and now its a whole "look" thats been a little distorted..Oh well, put your time and money into that car and make it however you want it, at least its on the road and you are having fun, thats all that matters..sound looking old Ford...

first off... rat rods in my view are primered, no shiney paint... petina is a key... "traditional" i guess you could call it... i just say rat rods... im not a shiney paint chrome wheels guy, i like them and all, but its not my slice of pie... here is some examples of my choice rods...

i didnt expect a crowd of snobs... i could go to a room full ricers and get the same reaction... geez... im just a kid who likes street rods, hot rods, rat rods, whatever you want to call them... i respect all the work some of you guys may put into your cars, but street rodders are getting a bad name, they buy a car, not build it... or if they build it, they send it here, there to get it worked on... i put blood sweat and tears in my car!

and its not a junk beater, its a project that i enjoy along the way of completion(which i hope its never done)... rebuilt 327, 4 speed, 9 inch... little peppy, but still a cruiser... no, its not a frame off, but im doing things right, as i can!

if you guys want to put me down for trying to build a real car and not a ***got civic... whatever, ill leave you "street rodders" to yourselves...

    Trust me dude,

You're not the first guy to wander in here and trip on his ****. Truth is the majority of the m***es have had it with the "Rat Rod" label. You just struck a nerve.

So you got some poo slung at you but slinging it back won't help. It never has. Never will.

    Here's my suggestions...

PM Ryan about a name change. You don't want anyone mixing you up with the other 51ratt. ;)

Read around a while, see whats going on and then jump in.

Build your car how you want. If it's what you like do you really need to stick a label on it?

    Good luck. Happy HAMB'ing.

you have not been hit to 1/1000th of what you could have. Tagman had kinder words for you than you would have got on a weekday.

If you can't handle mild criticism... maybe you should go... but I think there is a ton you could learn here if you stick it out.

rat rod is one of thoose over used terms, that lot of people have a bad reaction to.
Just look at e-bay listings and see how many of them are called RAT RODS, ( even billet machines muscle machines ).
Your 51 looks like a cool project, like the previous post build it to the best of your means and ability, keep it same, and welcone to the HAMB page.
And build it to pre 64 traditional values you will fit in fine here and learn a lot doing so.
And hopefully we will see the car at the HAMB drags next August.

I really ****ing hate the term "rat rod" too, but jesus guys, instead of everyone blowin' a new guy a rash of **** everythime that term is used can't someone come up with a one paragaraph explanation of why its gay, that we can all cut and paste as a response to these guys? If after that they don't get it, then give them hell!

i do want to learn... i just found out i can flip my spindles to drop it instead of bombing $500 on spindles... just gonna need to figure out what exactly i need to do...

i can take criticism... i could care less if you guys liked my car or not... its how i want it... i just thought you would be more friendly to a fellow rodder... im still a kid... i need you old farts to teach me the ways... ha... im not a rich kid, so i have to make things work as cheap as i can for now... i dont want a ****box car though...

i can change my name to... mmm.... 51greaser? or is that offensive?

    NAh, Come on MAN!

You can do better than that. Have a beer or two, (***uming your old enough. I can't condone underage drinking:D) then come up with a name that's "outside the box"

I think mine was born of two weeks of sheer boredom in Milwaukee and a six pack of Newcastle. Or was it twelve?

All kiddin and ball bustin aside, you just kinda hit a nerve.Hang around here cause there's a ****load of great people, advise and help on here to get ya what ya want or need. Most of us don't give a **** if it shines or not or what it's got under the hood or anywhere else. The point is it's old and yours. You do what you want to it and some will like it and some won't but that's just the way it is.It won't matter because it's yours and if you like it , that should be the end of it. Stick it out , in the long run you'll be glac as hell you did.

  22. sounds to me like you'll fit it just fine, but just don't expect to get a reach-around warm and fuzzy welcome...most don't. If you survive the initial beating then life is good...if you don't??????? ;)

Man! I love me a new fad. Can I change my name to 51 ratttt a tat?

This is like a big garage here. Hang out a bit and see how we do things. I've learned a bunch here and I'm gonna be 61 this month. Just be the noob and listen and learn. Offering to help on things that you know about is a good start too.

Oh, and I LIKE your PhotoChop pic. That stance is spot on for that car.

as for the link... thanks! i plan on doing mine here shortly too, before spring...

hey, i really like that! red with purple wheels... definately going that route....

  26. I concur with Mr Rashy, you can do MUCH better than that. How about these names:

    ****tripper
    snozberries
    silent****medley
    EthelMertz
    genelovesjezebel
    MrXmarksthespot
    screwboxford
    busterhymen
oldcarmike - oh wait, that one's taken

Welcome to the HAMB. Great place and lots of knowledgable folks here so don't let the grief get you down. At least you missed being welcomed by GERM. (Do a search and you 'll see what I mean) I missed that pleasure too.

I love the '51 and the color too. Looks like you've got a good handle on what you like in rods and you've come to the right place.

Read up on the joint, sit back, and relax - it's almost always fun and games here.

What ever happened to GERM? I have laughed my *** off reading some of his old posts.

  30. Kick back and learn...it sounds like you're torn between a couple options...you love ratty old rods, but you don't want a ****box.... you don't care what we think, but you want us "old farts" to teach you the ways.

I vote for the latter of both options.

Or you can just change your name to meFENCEme.

    Oldcarmike...you, sir, are hilarious.
