Hot Rods What's with all the car raffles?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevymadman, May 31, 2025.

  1. It depends on the vehicle being raffled,
who is raffling it, number of tickets
actually sold, taxes that apply, odds of
    winning, other factors involved.

I have won lesser prizes at car raffles
and silent bids, but it has been at car
shows and swap meets I have personally
attended and was present when the
    winners were announced.

Technically, most of raffles are illegal in a lot of states. I know, cuz the state of Missouri came after me years ago when we used to do the HAMB Drags Engine raffle. Pretty bad deal… Took months to get worked out and I pay a pretty significant fine.

  3. The issue on social median is that there are sponsored raffles that come through as ads. I see one coming in from Petersen Museum once in a while. I'm totally out on car raffles and most other raffles for parts or junk I don't need. I rather donate to someone directly if it's for a real cause. The rest is for profit usually.

In 2023 I won a 28 Ford sedan project full fendered roller with title included was 331 Cadillac engine rebuilt for one $100 ticket on Insta-cram it was to sponsor his race car so I felt good about that.
Sold the roller sedan for $3000 sold the fenders for $400 and still have the Cadillac engine.
    So sucker I am.
Facecrook I would not get involved.
