Grill seems to be pushed out at the top. I do not believe that the 55 hood had the bullet on it. It was smooth. Made it easy to "shave" the hood by swapping to a 55 on the 56. Did that back in the day when 55 hoods were all over the place. Not so much today.
My guess is that car suffered some collision damage. Nothing fits like it should. Look at the gap between the grille and parking light housings, somethings definitely not right.
So, do the 55 and 56 hoods have the same profile? I never noticed before. I hope their the same. I just picked up a set of 55 hood and fender trim to put on my 56 when I get my tube grill.
'55 & '56 hoods have the same profile. The hood ornaments are quite different; the '55 ornament is flush mounted while the '56 one sits in an indentation in the hood. Not sure if there's a difference in the latches/latch supports.
The 55 has holes punched on the leading edge for stainless trim, but will bolt on to a 56 no problem.
Wiper blades are missing, left/driver side outside mirror missing, right side mirror not correct for model year. Paint separation below headlights not centered. I don't think the hood is incorrect, it and the grille might just need some tweaking/adjusting to reduce the center gap. Mine has a similar gap too, but is much less than the one shown above. Mine:
The hood seems to fit the body well, just not where it meets the grille. I too think the grille or under structure must be the culprit. SURELY Ford did not stamp out two different hood shapes.
