the owner said a shop in Hemet did the notch. they ****ed it up cause the body flexed and buckled the 1/4 panels. then he had another shop put the air bags and a "4 link" in. does that look like a 4 link? he was driving on the fwy doing 60 when the rear end snapped and he did a 720 in the middle of the fwy. lucky that he wasn't killed or hit another car. this is the car a 56 Lincoln
That's sad workmanship, glad knowone was hurt. Some shops, sure can give an entire industry a bad rep.Someone should drop by and a SLAP THAT GUY!!!!
That is some scary ****! Question should be "Whats not wrong in this pic" The frame in notched 3/4 of the way though and then its a lader bar set up with a panhard bar sort of Way scary! Good Luck! LTR Dave
you know i saw this car in a magazine a few yrs back. not featured but a small pic. and i said damn i want to get a Lincoln so i searched and didn't find anything that i liked. several yrs later i met the guy that owns this lincoln. he tells me about his story and i go to take a look at it. GOD DAMN! is all i could say. that's when he goes on to tell me about how it's an eye sore now and that he thinks about selling it. i suggest for him not to do that Since it was his car that made me go out looking for a Licoln but instead i got a Caddy. anyways, heres the car getting worked on.......what a small world. i asked what he did to the guy that did the work. he said i just let it go. MAN i would have gone in to his shop and jumped him in the lobby in front of everyone.
wtf How can they sleep at night?!!! What'd he use for boxing plates 16 gauge? That's not even funny, who ever did that should have all their tools taken away and be exiled to a different dimention where it is ok to endanger the lives of others for money. Good luck. Thanx for posting pics like this I hope people will learn from this. Just because you own a welder it doesn't make you a welder or fabricator. Please be safe and do it right or don't do it at all. Ask lots of questions, do your homework and return home alive.
Is there anyway that the shop that did this work can be named? I am sure that many of us would like to know where NOT to take our cars. Kael
Another excellent example of why we have to have our cars certified by an independent qualified transport engineer here in New Zealand, if they have been modified in any way. Some people piss and moan about it but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The **** that did this should have his balls removed
Holy ****!!! i've seen this poor lincoln at many shows and swaps around so-cal and always thought "DAMN that lincolns perfect!!!, lay some paint and your done!!" scary to think he's driven that thing all around with a suspension like that.
i'll bet the owner could not only sue the person who did that but probably have them arrested for attempted murder!! i'm not joking. that is pure neglagence. the person who build that obviously had NO IDEA what they were doing and had no business taking a welder any part of any suspension on any car. this is what is bad about MIG welders. anybody that can pull the trigger thinks they can weld and that is just not the case, not by a long shot. i'll bet 80% of the people on this board (just for an example) that think they are good welders could'nt p*** a welding test to save their lives. most people just don't understand enough about what is going on to do it correctly. there is SOOO much more to welding than pulling the trigger and sticking a bead to two pieces of metal. the more i see **** like this the more i understand why Denny won't weld anything that has to be strong with anything other than a TIG. damn lucky nobody was KILLED!!!
Holy ****, this is the only moment I´m happy we have an yearly inspection here... This one would´n have p***ed it...
The Panhard rod mount welded straight to the middle of the 9" rear is probably unsafe too The metals not very thick there. Mart.
that really is one of the scariest things i have ever seen in my life, it amazes me that even survived the first bump in the road it encountered. someone really does need to get punched in the face over that, such a beautiful car, i hope the same shop didnt do any of the metal work on the body . . .
I´ve seen some bad welding and fabrication in my days, but damn!that rodend welded directly to the lower arm, omg!!! please include the names of who´s responsible for this mess.
Terrible.......But, I bet if you looked at most of the cars on the road that are dropped that low, you would see much more of the same..........It may be popular, but it ain't necessarilly safe............. Kinda makes it a ........."Rat Rod" .........Don't it?
Wow...........never knew you could just weld a rod end on like that. Learn something every day. And to further reveal what a noob I am, also thought that stick welding with 2 batteries and 3 jumper cables was reserved for 4x4 emergencies in the woods. Turns out you can run a custom ch***is shop with that technology. They didn't even double clamp the fuel line right!
It's been my personal opinion for a very long time that wire feed welding and critical frame components should never go together...anything that has to do with stress should be TIG welded. R-
You wonder how much he paid for the work. Was this a reputable shop that had a really bad day. Were their "A" players all out on vacation and their "D" players tried to fill in to meet the deadline. Maybe a little alcohol was involved? The frame looks like a poster child for a "Don't Drink and Cut or Weld Blindfolded when using Pot and Meth" campaign. This is your Welder -- This is your Welder on Drugs. .
WOW......talk about some death defying feats - just driving down the road.....No way Ray did that welding ......possibly a gratuate of the Stevie Wonder School of Welding?? I is obvious that the "craftsman" had no idea what he/she was doing. I've seen so called "rat rods" that look safer than that. But........nothing the hot wrench can't cut out........can you say plasma cutter?? PACO
