I would say the car is crying for fabric..

The boss says she would like that lavender grey on a sports car like a Stingray or a 55-57 Thunderbird..

Depends on the car. I always thought it was perfect for a sleeper.

I think it would look better with a darker earth tone 2nd color on the raised belt line.

Not my thing. A hot rod should scream "Look at Me" not blend in to the dirt.

If you like that, Sorry! Just my opinion.

Very popular in the 1977-80 era. Guess everything comes back around eventually.

Earth tones should only be used for the earth

Hmmmm. I think the opposite. Just like people, a car should speak, not scream, to attract attention. I try not scream at folks, I like to talk and make an impression with what I say. I'm debating colors right now for the roadster, an original Ford blue, dark, not Washington Blue, or grey, with the coach lines a complimenting color. BB1F3F88-93C1-416B-858D-583385F0C654.jpeg

  12. I like 'em. Been seeing a lot of them lately. I'm just afraid they will become dated or overdone in time. Maybe already.

  16. F4595CD6-78FB-4E67-98DC-A30D2A7ECAAD.jpeg My wife calls me captain beige. There are some great one coloured cars on here - especially that that one 40 ford. If the greys and steel blues are earth tones count me in. A great car doesn’t need a wild colour to call attention to it, let the shape, style ,stance and details do the talking. Found the picture, credit to Norris, the builder, the painter and the photographer- not sure, but they could all be the same person.

Normally I'd say boring but it depends on the car. The sedan looks really good,
let's say upscale. If it was red I'd pass it by without a second thought. The
'40 directly above is another example. A nice change from the norm.

Usually, the older the car, the more appropriate imo. The 40 looks really nice.

Dull blah colors that just lay there if you as me... Hot rods and customs should be flashy....

  20. I like that Tudor, and the color is nice and I wouldn't change it if I owned it, but I could never bring myself to choose a color like that if I was painting one. Too many other options that are more Hot Roddy.

When I was in the used car business, we called that color "hang-around brown" because they didn't sell as well as other colors.

If the car is done right I like them and That sedan is a great looking car....

  22. I love the earth colors on other people's cars. Like Mikey said, { Classy. } I would hate to see everyone painting their cars all the same colors. My Nomad is turquoise, and ivory because it says 1950's to me. My Delivery is Hot Rod red. My favorite color has always been { Porsche Indian Red }. I painted my model A coupe {American Graffiti Yellow} but only for a short time. I realized that I only liked { yellow } on other peoples Rods too. lol So I went back to the Hot Rod primer, as it's just a bare bones Rod. So I think the color really depends on individual likes, and also the car it's self. Your Car. So Your way!:)

I like the older oem colors both domestic and foreign on older vehicles. The 40 looks great to me as well as the op's. Doesn't necessarily have to be earth tone as there are some nice reds. Now if your building a high end "flashy" car with all the bells and whistles then paint color and type needs to match with the newer metallic BC/CC. But then thats probably not HAMB friendly.

I thought anything other than black was risque, in varying degrees! I quite like the subtle, earthy colours that have becoming increasingly popular over the last few years but I am worried that it might turn out to be a fad of sorts. I have a car that'll be in need of paint as soon as I can't stop doing other things to it! I keep defaulting to black, but others keep catching my eye. Decisions, decisions!

Borrowed from the Hamb and elsewhere for reference, various browns, greens, grays and combinations of each. All are "earth" tones.

What is a fast color? Black, Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow? It doesn't matter what color a hot rod is painted.
Most traditional cars look great with earth tone colors as some look great with a fast color.
I don't knock any color unless it's rust being called patina.
Like Fargo said, "let the vehicle tell me what color it wants to be"

Your color looks perfect on your rod.

Its hard to say that I would like ALL earthtone colors, but some look good and the cars still have a Hot Rod look to them. I have a friend who has a 29 Ford sedan with earthtone that just doesn't look "Hotroddy" to me even though it has a V8. I don't think its the colors............I think he just has the wrong wheels and stance. I really think a its the other components that give a car "the look", and the earthtones look just fine with them. I have seen lots of Hot Rods with vibrant colors and wild paint jobs. Many I like and then some I don't. That said, I have to say that my least favorite paint is anything pink or purple or lime green or metalflake............but there is a whole plethora of people who love that............so I don't think its unusual to find that many of us like the earthtones and many do not. Personally, I like yours! And I like the wheels you picked for it as well as the stance.......Looks "Hotroddy" to me!;)

As long as Black Dirt is considered earth tone, then yes, absolutely!
