Ok, I'm getting the hang of this postin' stuff now. Here's the deal. I'm conducting a non-scientific pole on car magazines that I can use for future reference. I know what I like in the magazines I buy, but I'm messed up so what I want to know from you guys is this:
Tell me what your favorite car magazine is, why you buy it and what parts of it you like the most ( tech, pictures , girls, pull out stuff, ect...) Also, what don't you like or what you would like that isn't currently out there.
What is your favorite car magazine and why?

Rod and Custom, or at least until they recently got a new editor. Its still a pretty good mix of Kustoms, rods and the whole bit. Their tech articles have taught me a thing or two as well. Its dependably readable unlike the "scene" magazines that are sometimes so bad it hurts

    TRJ ....the Rodder's Journal....

Great photos, good stories and event coverage....they are on the same wave lenght as I am......they have stuff I like.....

    R&C.... Rod and Custom........

goes up and down......sometimes GOOD and sometimes ......not so good.... But I understand they have to have a wider range of stuff for their customers...and try to please everyone a little....

    Street Rodder...

They have the MOST and Best ads..... :)

Hands down The Rodder's Journal! TRJ has great photography, and the layout is amazing... nothing too clutttered or too simple, just right! I think a lot of the traditional car mags have way too much going on. Just my 2 cents!

The rodders journal. They take amazing pics of all the cars and have a special way of making every car look like it should be on the front row at the autorama. THey always have indepth articles about builders, vehicles, and historical stuff.
Most of the other big magazines have tech articles but i can usually find them on the net...most of them are primedia anyway.
TRJ is the best print magazine out there.
    Thats my opinion at least.

    Im with you man,
If i could only read one publication it would be TRJ and for all the same reasons.

I subscribe to R&C , its ok, but hate all the crap they put in there,(those little cards), put that stuff in the newsstand copies, dont bother me and save a tree while you're at it .

    Street Nodder, forget it

    Warm Stick, too little,too late.

  9. Who needs magazines when you got the HAMB. All kinds of awesome cars and great tech all at the click of a button. Plus none of those damn cards fallin' out all over the place.

    I like rolls and pleats

Fits in the back pocket. Nice size for the hands. It just feels real. Cars that are achieveable on the common mans budget.

    Same for MAGNETO

Practical Performance Car. ( English )

Took over where Cars and Car Conversions left off.
Expensive to have a sub for, but worth it.

If there was a Hot Rod version of that sold in the States, we would all be buying it.

  14. I still like car craft since its the cheap mans hotrod. They do better beaters and I actually learn stuff from their articles.

We need a truely hardcore tech and car mag...like the HAMB Journal - a seasonly mag that showcases the best tech, best rides, and best meets from a HAMB members view.

    I would subscribe...

The Rodder's Journal is my favorite, as well. It's simply the cleanest and classiest looking publication out there, even if it does cost as much money as most regular soft-cover books... But hey, every issue practically IS a book, and I know I'd rather read through them than 50% of the books I come across, anyway! :D

    -Gregory-

(As a side note, I got in my first two back-issues of Car Kulture Deluxe yesterday, and although I haven't had time to read through much of them, the two magazines -issues #3 and #7- have the best mix of cars I like that I've ever seen in my life! More classic Traditional and "Rat" Rods than I could jam into several issues of Ol' Skool Rodz, it seems! Plus the writing isn't worded like a drunk hillbilly is conversing with you.)

    TRJ The Rodder's Journal
Great photos, GREAT stories (HISTORY) and event coverage....they are on the same wave lenght as I am......they have stuff I like.....

    R&C Rod and Custom.
Goes up and down, more times GOOD than not so good.
Generally has stuff I prefer, and enjoy reading.

    Custom Rodder
Good pics. But the magazine is on a down turn in my book. No articles of interest.

    Street Rodder
Is definately not sucking the worst as they have been in the past. Starting to pick them up more often.

Custom Rod Builder???? (put out by the same people that do American Rodder)
AWESOME tech articles. I picked this up to flip through the pages and subscribed after 1 issue. Never done that before.

Ol'Skool Rods I like all the vintage tin, but don't care for all the rockabilly stuff. Sorry to all the RB guys on the board. I love the cars.

Rodders Journal cause it is 100% cars! No Fashion bullshit that you see everywhere else..... Great stories, amazing pictures and sheds alot of light on the history of hot rodding. (which I really love)

  23. The Rodders Journal is head and shoulders above the rest. I've got every issue so far and I'm going to be buried with them.

No tech stuff; just fanrastic photography, very well written in-depth articles, great range of topics and cars, and very few ads.

  24. I subscribe to Street Rodder and Rod and Custom. Habit more than anything.

Back in the 50s I subscribed to Hot Rod and, from the looks of where it is going I might start again. Did you see the October issue yet?

Several times a month I go to Books a Million or Hastings and get a cup of coffee. Then I mosey over to the magazine rack and pick up what ever catches my eye. Hot rods, old trucks, sports cars, VWs, whatever. I also wander by the "Transportation" book shelves looking for new titles.

When I have my stash I kick one of the school kids out of their lounge chair and start reading. Most of the time I return what I have to the shelves from where they came. But occasionally, I will actually go up to the register and buy something. If I do it will be because there is something informative that I want to keep on hand for a while, and it could be just about any car hobby magazine, even "Low Rider".

So the answer is wat ever grabs my mind at the moment.

  26. I like OSR because I AM into the rockabilly stuff. Dont like R&C because it's too much billet and big bucks.
I really like a little New Zealand mag called "Jammin' Gears", very much grass roots hot- rodding.

Yeah, yeah, yeah -- TRJ rules, but it only comes out every 3 (or 4, or 5, or... whatever … months).
I'm assumin' you mean the normal mags we go down to the newsstands for about every month.
I ALWAYS buy HRM, because that's what I've done every month since May of 1955. It may veer from the true course, but you'll always regret missing a copy for reference.
And now I'm digging hearing from Gary, Gerry, and Steve again, but I have to pretend their boss -- John -- isn't really there. Sorry, I've just read too many derogatory/expository revelations about his mandatory hook-ups with advertisers.
So, in summary, it's American Rodder and Rodder's Digest for me. I buy others, but they usually disappoint.

You'd be surprised, and probably rather saddened by the poor, odd English that too many people in America speak.
