  1. There's considerable argument wether the Mann version says "deuce" or "douche" I was reading that somewhere (here?) the other day.

Shooter Jennings has a few good ones, Little White Lines, Steady At The Wheel, etc. - in the more obscure neighborhood, some stuff no one's mentioned:

    Molly Hatchet "Ragtop Deluxe",
The Outlaws "Racin' For The Redline",
    Blackfoot "Drivin' Fool",
The Henry Paul Band "Turn It Up" (which starts with a burnout done by Allen Collins '32 Plymouth 3-window rod; Collins was one of the original guitarists with Lynyrd Skynyrd).

And I see Black Oak Arkansas "Hot Rod" got a mention, Doc Holliday also has a song "Hot Rod" - a completely different song - there's some good stuff on their albums.

ok, i admit that i didn't read past the 10th or so response.

"409" & "little old lady from pasadena" are a couple of my favs. mostly 'cause the lines in them bring vivid images to my feeble mind:

    "dual quad 4 speed positraction 409" &

"brand new shiney red super stock dodge".

yeah, i know that 409 chevys and super stock dodges were early 60's cars and really don't fit the hamb image, but i was a young teenager when the factories produced these cars and seeing one of these cars in person (or even if just in hot rod magazine) was tantamount to a wet dream to me back then and i'd still love to be able to have one for my own.

  5. "CW McCall" was Bill Fries, who cowrote the song with fellow Omaha advertising guy Chip Davis (who went on to create Mannheim Steamroller), base on characters they created for an Old Home Bread commercial.

    My faves...

"Shlock Rod" by Jan & Dean ("I've got a '48 Buick and it's olive green... all the kids on my block say it sure looks keen")

Also by Jan & Dean, "The Anaheim Azusa and Cucamonga Sewing Circle Book Review and Timing Association" (follow up song to Little Old Lady from Pasadena)

    "R.I.P.S.T.P." - Demonics

    "Dune Buggy Gang" - Demonics

    "SS396" - Paul Revere & the Raiders

"KRLA King of the Wheels" - Bobby Fuller 4

"Tijuana Taco Wagon" - Mr Gasser & the Weirdos

    "My Toyota" - Bent Scepters

    Copperhead Road, Steve Earl.

Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
