Except when the Santa Ana winds blew sand across the track, or after dark.

    Went there '63 to '70.

Beech Bend Bowling Green, KY absolutely the best. Covered grandstand right next to the track. Still the home of the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion.

Searched this thread and didn't see US 131 in Martin Mich. Used to go there in the late 60's. Saw a top fuel bike crash there last summer - rider survived at 230mph.

No doubt "the Beave" is way cool. Been there, done that.

But my favorite, truly old dragstrip, is Central Michigan Dragway (now the Mid Michigan Motorplex), Edmore, MI, where I got my start in 1955 - before it was PAVED!

There are two others: 1 - Lions; 2 - Bakersfield.

I got my start at Thompson when I lived in Ohio.

I still return for the Gasser Reunion every June.

Ryan, When I was looking for a track to put on The World Gasser Championships, I considered many facilities in the central U.S. Pueblo (Colorado) Motorsports Park is the coolest old-school strip I have ever checked out. It is run by people who care, from the city or county, and does what a track is supposed to. Take a look at this one. It's kind of like a flashback to the good ole days, AND it is still in operation.

HEADS UP!! Ryan is looking for tracks that could be used for upcoming events.

The old Houston International Drag Strip off 45 South in Houston, Texas. It was close, cheap entry fees for it's day and Wednesday night Bracket Races and "run what ya brung".

Bristol Dragway is a pretty cool old strip. As for the west coast, its gotta be Famoso.

  23. Come on...there is only one track that qualifies....Great Bend, Kansas....home of the first NHRA race......

  28. the only true real deal track is george rays hot rod wild cat drag strip in paragould ark. true heads up racing only. built in 1962 in georges back yard it is a unreal trip back in time. the time slips are still hand written. look up nitro hallucination to get a idea of what its like. i have gone there several times. it should be on everyones bucket list. tracks like this no longer exist. there have been several listed that are very cool but nothing like george rays.

Thompson Dragway in Thompson, OH. Feels like I'm in the 60s when I'm there for the Gasser Reunion-409 Shootout.
