Samoa Drag Strip. Eureka, Ca. Tons of history, longest running track in California and one of the oldest continually operating in the country. Eureka is a cool little town, a few hours north of the Bay Area. To make the deal even better, this year they repaved! The new surface rules, first repave in many, many decades.
Also, as far as budgets go, I'm pretty sure this would be a great deal.

I really dig Bakersfield too, but we are supposed to be spreading the gospel. Trust me, this part of the world (Eureka/Samoa) needs to be invaded by hoodlums.

The Irwindale back in the 60's was a great track. It's since been torn down and rebuilt. With that said I would have to say Bakersfield or Pomona.

Quaker City Dragway, Salem,OH. Mostly because I lost my 1320
cherry there. Beautiful facility and celibrating 50th anniversary
    this year.

  13. I was talking to some of the guys that put on the Antique Nats, and discussed So Cal locations. He said two of the tracks (wouldnt tell me but didnt say no when I said Fontana and Irwindale) wanted 5 figures up front in cash with additional expenses after the fact to host the Nats.

    Famoso might work.

I think Southern Ca is just too expensive for a start-up event.

    Anything in Arizona or Nevada?

  14. First you say, your gonna go with LACR (way more Socal than Bakersfield). Then you say a Socal track (Bakersfield) may only draw 14 people. Therefore you recommend a Norcal location. Am i the only one seeing a contradiction? LACR will be long gone before any west coast plans can be made (2 weeks i hear). And lots of HAMB people go to Bakersfield (Famosa) for other events. So, i'd sure disagree with only 14 people showing up

  15. I think you are wrong, people would show up, for the WC Hamb drags in Bako.

Maybe for a carshow only. Even too windy and dirty for that.

I don't think I'M taking it wrong Kurt. The rat fink deal is a party more than a race. If we try to make the HAMB drags a "Kulture" thing, we lose right off the line. It's not my thing to decide, but I would hope the HAMB Drags would not be a Rat Rod thing in any way. You went to the ANRA race at Famoso. That was fun and it was very pure. It was a new event, at a new venue for ANRA and it went very well, I think. The Bowser family, who own Famoso, obviously didn't make it too expensive for a grassroots group like ANRA to use the track. So don't rule Bako out, 'til someone really ASKS.

El Mirage was small because folks are in the garage getting ready for Bonneville. And LSR is not even close to a spectator deal. You're either into it, or you don't go. Although, I think the best part is checking out the pits and starting line. Alos, there were more HAMBers there than you think. We were there in the air conditioned late model pick up.

sears point would be awesome, but it's owned by a corporate machine nowadays. area is great and was built in late 60's.

famoso is family run and would attract both the northern and southern california folks. town isnt that great in my opinion, but the strip has a deep history (built in 1951, i believe.)

I realize that none of these are east or west coast tracks, but I will chime in anyway. The tracks I have had the most FUN at are State Capitol outside of Baton Rouge, LA, Hallsville TX outside of Shreveport, LA (not sure if it is still open), these 2 tracks always spawn awesome mudbug parties. Kil-Kare is great and there is always the time warp that is Little River.

Gotta be BREMERTON RACEWAY, operated by the Handlers Racing Association; I was a member for 4 years until job requirements and 7 subsequent spinal surgeries ended that for me. Been going since 59' by the Handlers and before that from 56' by different car/racing clubs. Still running and not quite as "portable" as it was; now has concrete Jersey barriers, concrete pad, score boards and many other improvements. As far as Shelton Dragway goes, everyone hopes it takes off again; also on a F.A.A. condemned runway. A lot of people are hehind it and for 2 years has been the site of a nostalgia/reunion drag racing venue and this year a second bracket event. Lots of other former strips in Washington; Bellingham, Bayview, Arlington, Ellensburg, Deer Park, and Puyallup. All on former runways and Puyallup became Thun Field after closing. BUTCH.

Amen buckeye!!!!! 42 was a well known track back in the day like Famoso... Famoso is the home of the March Meets and 42 is the home of Rock and Race.....good central fit... Thompson has the Gasser history so that would be cool too..

NFC & 6t5 are correct! Island Dragway, Great Meadows, NJ is what you want.

Cute town I guess, we stop at the Stardust diner going home.
