I am a Production supervisor in a plastics plant for about 7 more weeks.........Plant is shutting down and the work is going back to the US.......I have given this company 25 years.............I am a little bitter right now.
I'm a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Analyst. I work for an environmental consulting company building geographic databases and making maps. I have met 2 other HAMBers that are GIS guys and we keep in contact professionally. You never know who you will meet here. Crab
Professional Firefighter for another 110 working days. Will be a civilian for the first time since 1969 except for two years in tech school. I'm going to miss the guy's but won't miss the bullshit.. May be able to finally get some of my junk finished. As my operator says "Hot Rod's ain't Shit when they don't run"
Manufacturing Operations Manager - I oversee contracts, scheduling, engineering, purchasing, new equipment, getting things through our shop... and stuff like that... need a gibbs cnc programmer...
I'm a prototype fabricator. We build plenty of incidental parts and pieces from prints that almost never seem right. CAD sometimes designs shit that can't be built. When I'm not doing that they send me to the Motorsport group and I get to work on late model hot rods (yuk). I also seem to find myself in the paint shop often. Last year we got to resto-mod a 68 Shelby GT350 conv. This year it's a 65 GTO soon to begin. Last few weeks been building some big truck stuff to debut in Chicago this weekend. After the show I'll post a concept drawing. At home I fabricate as well. In the process of a 56 Chevy HT. Getting a tall deck Merlin II BBC with a blower. No, not mine. Add full time care-giver to the list as well for dear ol dad.
not doin much of anything rite now but thot bout goin in to the used sidewalk business, I know where I can get lots of product, just don't know how much of a market there is rite now...
I'm a fuel system design engineer for GE aircraft engines. Project I'm working on is the F-35 fighter jet engine. One variant of the plane can hover and land vertically. Go to http://www.jsf.mil and check out the gallery section. Some cool videos there. Oh, and jet engine tests are cool. You'd be amazed at the stuff they can suck in and spit out without missing a beat. Mike J
this doesn't sound as exciting as some of your jobs, but i am a fencing sub-contractor for a company in gr. It allows me to not have a boss i want to slap every day, and i can be a piece of shit and sleep in a few hours if need be. but wintertime in michigan doesn't give me much work. so i spend too much time on the computer and not enough in the garage.
I feel yor pain,it is happening everywhere. Most of my job is being farmed out to Canada,(aircraft overhaul,to Air Canada).
I work in my dad's transmission shop. I like it. Been there 4 years. The only thing that sucks is washing parts with new varsol. Burns the hands after washing parts. You'd be surprised what things will cause a transmission not to work.
Part time, I supervise the production requirements and the employees at one of the few nationwide Dust Factories. We pump tons of dust into the air everyday to meet demands. A "Dust factory?" you ask? Well, it has to come from somewhere, doesn't it? Actually, I supervise the group that produces the AT&T (formerly SBC, formerly Ameritech, formerly Michigan Bell) phone book covers & advertising - the big $$$ stuff. I started out as a graphic designer and unwisely switched to management. They fired the original supervisor of this group and put me in charge against my wishes. We make the covers for the phone books of California, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Looking for a new career/place of employment. I'm bored and the people are aggrevating.
and another career firefighter, but not like you guys. finished training in november and have been "on the floor" for only 2 months now. i love this job.
im a screed operator on the buisness end of a asphalt paving machine for cadillac asphalt llc the largest asphalt company in michigan. now if they would just cough up some cash we can fix these roads here
Okay post #2 for this FNG. I work for that big airplane company in Seattle WA. I write a couple chapters of the 777 airplane maintenance and fault isolation manuals. I cover environmental control systems and engine pneumatics (hot air )
Nothing spectacular here guys,I`m a handyman at a couple of childrens homes.Pick my own hours, different jobs to do every day,to be honest it dont feel like I`m going to work!Love it.OBTW,there`s always a downside...the pay is krap...lol.
I resurface bath tubs. Surface Doctor is the name of my business. I do a lot of really cool old clawfoot tubs, but most of my work is in average homes. I meet a lot of good people, and some real jerks. Every now and then I get to see some cool old cars, stashed in garages. But nothing is ever for sale. I did a job for a guy who has more car magazines than I do. Still working on being his very best freind .
I work at GM designing the interiors of cars. No, I didn't have a thing to do with the Aztek. I fart around with a website called motorcityhotrod.com and try to scrape up enough money to get a Model A roadster body and frame. Help me, I think I'm a helpless cause.
parts guy at a Hot Bike/Street Chopper store,we build sell and repair american v-twins. pretty lame but at least i get to look at motorcycles and chicks in leather....
I'm a Mazda/VW tech and a certified putzer,I like putzing around with crap that I usually break and walk away from, then come back a week later and ask who fucked this up
I do development and performance testing of gasoline detergents. Yes, some do work better than others at keeping your crtical engine parts clean. Trivia: dirty intake valves can easily rob you of 5-6% of your power at high rpms. And good detergents can clean it up without cracking a bolt on the engine. .
Electron microscopist for a company that provides strippers (chemical that is)to the electronics industry.
