the quilted effect......is that done with a sharp die on top and a flat die on the bottom, or is it more complicated than that? urethane lower die? How did you roll over the other lines?

Oh yeah, that firewall is awesome and so is the column drop and so is the window frames....you get the idea.

    awesome metal work guys!

When I read the first post about squinting...I did that. I couldn't see anything. Then I remembered I'm Asian, so my eyes were closed when I squinted...you were talking to the round eyes

Thanks for the ego feeding!! I really appreciate compliments from my peers!

Sorry no tech on the magic cuss words, thats top secret info.

As for a tech on how to do the firewall, not sure I could do that either, I still havent figured out how I did it :D! (rumor has it there might be a tech week coming up though)

The diamond pattern is rolled in using a tipping die over a flat lower die thats wrapped in electrical tape to soften it up. Doing it this way allows you to roll across the adjacent line without crushing either line. Gives you a perfect point every time!

Here's some more pics for those that asked,,

    Heater mount,

    horn*****on,

I also had to relocate and slightly molest the cowl vent handle to clear the brace under the dash and the heater box,,

and something funny, when you attempt to powdercoat the 700 year old potmetal column trim piece, it looks like it was rolled in sand. Then when you say the hell with it and spray paint and****emble it, it wont match. After that you try and take it apart to redo the wiring,, it explodes.

So dont tell anyone but I sweet talked my machinist into making a new one on a cnc lathe, and I welded a nub on it to mount the horn*****on to.

It wont look so billety after its been coated,, just dont let the inspectors at the Pileup hear about it or they might not let me in!

As for build or rebuild, dunno, the only thing I havent done is pull the body off the chassis, everything else has been modified, rebuilt, or screwed with in some way.

I'm real glad you approve of the job I have done so far and it will only get better!

lol, its not purple,, its pink, and it was everywhere. and I mean everywhere, motor, chassis, body, steering shaft, there was also some seafoam green in places too.

I cant imagine how that poor car felt at the time.

One thing about Larry... he could pull off the pink car and not have many people say anything to his face.

I've been in the shop a lot while this poor thing is in the process of being saved, and Jay has only skimmed the surface of what he's done. Everthing he's looked at has at least one, if not several modifications to make it purtier or more better functional. I think he needs to write an owner's manual for it when he's done; I don't think ESD will be able to remember it all. After all, ESD is approaching the age where he's either trying to remember your name or lookin' for a bathroom (ask me how I know...). BTW, fer those that don't know, Da Tinman is my errant son. Maybe someday he'll get a real job... (J/K, J/K)
