Hi I have a 53 victoria. I just lowered the rear end ( juts put a maverick rear) the wheels that came with the car ( not stock) are too wide they are 15x9 or 10s. My question is what is the back spacing on the stock rims? My worry is purchasing the wrong wheel and not being able to put on the fender skirts on. I know lots of people use 15x6 but I am not sure on the back spacing. I want to go with a smoothie wheel. Any help??? Thanks
My guess is that it would be around 3.5 - 4". I'm sure someone can measure up a stock wheel if they have one.
Maybe you missed this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/mustang-rims.945557/ You might want to open a conversation with the member to get a back space measurement.
I'm using a 15x8 wheel with 4" backspace, my rear end is 57". The tires are 225/70R 15 and are a bit of a fight to remove since my rear end is dropped 3"
I have 15" x 7" wheels and 235/75-15 tires on the back of my '59. Jacked up under the axle, I had to let the air out of the tires to get them on. Hope it gets better with the axle hanging.
I am going for this lowered look. People that I have talked all seem to have the stock wheels when they lower them like this. But I want the smoothie rim so my rims can look like these for now
Best bet for clearance is a 15" X 6" and use a 205/75/15 tire which is closest to the original size,a 70 series has a wider section width than a 75 series making for a tighter fit in those shallow rear wheel wells.
The 55-56 wheels are 15 X 5.5 with 4.75" or so back spacing. With a lowered rear and skirts, a 6 inch wheel from the aftermarket will have 4.5" back spacing, that is really cramming it in tight when using the 205/75/15 tire. What I am saying here is the original Ford 55-56 wheels will fit the best, better than the aftermarket 6 inch wheel with 4.5" backspacing. If you want stock wheels, I have a nice one for sale, I am not too far away.
