I'm getting ready to order some new wheels. Chrome reverse or chrome OEM's. I just have a couple of questions before I order the wrong thing. What is "standard" backspacing on a 14x5" wheel? How about 15x8's? I need the fronts to go over the '40 brakes. Since I don't have Buick finned brakes, I'd like the wheels to cover most of the brake as opposed to showing off the fins. Also is 5x5 1/2 the right bolt pattern? The rear is an 8". Will it be the same pattern if I switch to a 9' later?
[ QUOTE ] Also is 5x5 1/2 the right bolt pattern? The rear is an 8". Will it be the same pattern if I switch to a 9' later? [/ QUOTE ] I have never seen a 8 inch Ford with the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. Some 9" are. Bronco and 1/2 ton Fords to name a few. .
Buzzard, most likely your 8" is 4 1/2 bolt pattern. I'd be surprised if it's not. Some 9' have the same and some are 5 on 5. Mark your wheel studs 1,2,3,4,5 Measure across 1 and 3 and that's your size.Does that make since? TP
Sorry to confuse. The question was about the '40 front end bolt pattern. Thanks for the input, so far.
Hi, actually the bolt pattern measuring with 12345 is close, however you will be more accurate if you measure from the center of #1 to the centerline intersecting #3 and #4, but yes most likely you have the 4 1/2" pattern. as for offset "standard" is a relative term with the manufacturers.... but usually standard is a 1/2" positive from 0... so a 14x5 would have a 3" backspacing. Typical standard backspacing for a 15x8 is 4". -SAM wwwthewheelplace.com
I have a pair of new SOLIDS 15 x7 wheels that fit the rear 40 Ford. Bolt pattern is 5 x 5 1/2. 4 1/2in backspacing, 3 1/2 front spacing. Hope that helps.
