trying to figure out what wheels to put on the front of my 53 cranbrook, its lowered and im having the issue of the tire rubbing the upper control arm. anyone know what stock specs for front wheels are? PO took the nice wheels off and got what ever wheel he could from pick n pull to get it to roll and sell it hence the problem. any info would be great thanks!
If they are aftermarket wheels and you like them... Just buy a couple of 1/4" spacers at any tire shop, If you want to check the back spacing, it's much easier with the tire dismounted. All you have to do is lay the wheel flat on the ground (face down), lay a straight edge across the wheel and measure the distance from the straight edge to the hub mounting surface = backspace. Then subtract the ammount of room you need to clear.... and that would be the number you need.
what it looks like the wheel that was rubbing was 5" bs i figured about a half inch would get me safe. i have 7/16 spacers but no one makes the right bolt length and i dont want to convert the drums to studs at the moment. the wheels are some random lat 90s dodge wheels that dont look right. i was just wondering what stock was so i could see if im off.
Factory wheels are usually zero offset. 6 in wheels have 3" backspace, and 3" front. I'm guessing you have the wrong wheels? 5" backspacing is a LOT! Those old Mopars probably had 4 to 5 in. wide wheels, so 2-2.5" backspacing is correct.
That's about correct. I have a pair of 5" MOPAR wheels in the garage that I am using on another car. one is on the floor give me a minute to go measure. 5 wide and 2 5/8" backspace.
yeah the wheels on the front now are about 6.5" wide and 5" back space. i think i found a set at the used tire and wheel place one town over that are for a mustang that are 4". was hoping to find a set someone had in there back yard but thats the way it goes lol
Figured I would ask here before starting another thread, since when is Plymouth 5 on 4 1/4 wheel pattern? What else has the pattern that is less backspace than I have? Thanks!
