  1. I can't decide what wheels to go with on my 60 Belair. I plan on lowering it 3" front and rear. My choices:

    Chrome reverse with spiders caps

    Supremes

    Stock caps

I plan on keeping the skinny ww's. Not sure on how a 4dr will look with Supremes. I also plan on doing some scallops at some point. Any thoughts? Thanks, Todd

Id leave the poor 4 door be but if you must do the chrome rims ……supremes look there best in the s**** bin

  6. I love supremes big time but I vote for steelies and spiders on your ride. If you do scallops pleas don't do them red.

In the late sixties here in the NE,a low buck way would be black stock rims, trim rings and baby moon with the narrow whites. I'd vote for that.

  9. No red. The scallops are going to be Sunglo Copper. Same color as the interior trim Todd

I like the sound of that Sunglo Copper for the scallops...as for wheels I cast my vote for the chrome reverse set but I've never seen them with the pinner whites ??? So maybe the supremes would be better ??? My $.02

I love supremes, I just can't afford em. Stock caps off e-pay and new tiwan ss rings=160 bucks. Stock wheels and rustoleum gloss black.

    Todd,
Nice car! Sounds like you are headed for an early sixties custom look.

I have posted a copy of my favorite 1960 Chevy custom:
Frank Schindler's Bebopper from Poughkeepsie, NY. The car was featured in the May 1983 issue of Cl***ic & Custom Magazine, where this photo originated.

The car knocked me out in print, and even more so in real life at early Sled Scene East and Lead East shows. Frank sold custom accessories at the shows and I had a chance to talk to him a few times. I know he sold the car long ago. Anyone know if it survives?

Anyway, I posted the pic to show how much impact a mild custom '60 Chevy can have. Lots of easy bolt-on options for headlights, taillights, grille, and wheels.

Any of your choices would look good. But if it were my car, I'd look for something out of the ordinary, but still in the period.

Instead of spiders (which I love) I'd look for a set of "continentals," a spider type hub cover with a spinner.

Instead of Supremes, look for other early five-spokes, like the original Rocket or Hurst.

There are hundreds of really cool looking covers that nobody ever uses just because they want to play it safe. Lots of neat cones, tribar spinners, center medallions and other things you could customize cheap. Stop in a hub-cap shop or flea market and just look and use your imagination.

Look for some old Car Craft magazines from the early sixties. They used to do an annual wheel cover/custom wheel issue with lots of ideas.

Hell yes, an OG set of the early Kustomags would be sweet as hell on that '60, with the pinner whitewalls to go along with.

I could also see a set of OG Raders

or even Foresight Venture drag mags or Fenton Hawks. And if you don't mind them in a 14" size you should be able to find a decent used set for way less than the cost of a new set of chrome steelies or Supremes. Not that either of those two choices would look bad, but they're a bit overdone.

I'd 2 door convert the car if you were planning to go all out on it, but a clean lowered stocker with some nice period-correct wheels and maybe dual exhaust with bellflower tips should look real nice.
