Wheel color choice for my Buick - poll

well I set myself a "deadline" to get the project back on the road - it's been 3 years since I got the car

I took her down to bare metal (asked a lot of questions and read a lot of threads here on HAMB) -

primed her (asked a lot of questions and read a lot of threads here on HAMB) -

sanded and sanded (asked a lot of questions and read a lot of threads here on HAMB) -

& I painted her in the garage

it was all done at my parents house a few towns away - so I was only able to get the once a week (except - i cranked up the frequency this summer in order to meet my deadline = Lead East)

My intial vision was the RED wheels w/ dog dishes......after installation i was was not "taken" by the look (the red is kinda distracting)

so i sprayed a set w/ black (how she sits now - the red are still intact)

i guess i am looking for some reaction to either - RED or BLACk......for now - thats where I am

the future.....who knows.....chrome reverse or spiders and rings on the black.....but not in the budget for the time being

I agree, the red is distracting. Nice job on the paint!

 

Same color as the car with the caps and some narrow trim rings.

 

^^what brad said......same color as car.....but if you must choose from what you have do the black one.s The red is not a good contrast against that gold

I vote for black but I think body color would look sweet

 

Red does not work on everything. I had red on my 50, but when I painted the top it clashed bad.

 

Try some roof color

 

Black looks great but same color as the car would look tits!

 

I'm thinking same as the car with hubcaps,,and I like red but not on that car. HRP

I can easily do a set gold - i'll convert the red ones over - no biggie - BUT - the tires are about 2" shorter in overall height - I like the way the tires on the blak wheels "fill" the wheel openings

the red rims have the built in "clips" for dog caps =

Gold would look better but black will work.

 

I just voted for black, and I'd add the spider caps & rings when you can. Nice car!!!

 

Body color with the dog dish hubcaps would look best but the black with the hubcaps is traditional too.

my thought on White - is no - only because - the white walls seam to fade into them too much - (if top was a different color then - yes paint wheels roof color)

Black with dogs would require repainting the red wheels - black (due to those are the set w/ the cap clips "factory" rivited)

for the most part I guess red are a no go - that's why sometimes I need to actually see it - for my imagination was teeling me one thing _ and my eyes told me another

 

I dont mean to be s***head about this, but, because that car has a gorgeous amount of chrome, I'm thinking something with plenty of chrome would really set it off. A nice deep dish....mmmm.

i am there with ya -

here's my thought - run the black for now and next spring ($$$) get some chrome on there

I have been searching - but as it turns out - I cannot find anyone who makes Chrome reverse rims 15" 5x5 pattern........(these are my first choice)

so other choices are :

--Spokes- which are insanly expensive or something elese......
--Chrome existing - not sure how they'll look
---black with Spider caps and trim rings - EASY and RELATIVLY INEXPENSIVE

dont usually like them buicks but that one is outstanding! id love to have it in my driveway. black wheels or chrome.the only way to go. i was kinda liking red wheels on some cars but they have been put on almost every car you can think of and im getting where i hate them

 

You make a valid point. I got a set of jc Whitney lancers from 58 on mine.

 

The wheels were body color on these buicks when they were new right? That would look the best with no caps. Otherwise I would go with the black wheels and the dog dish caps, and NO trim rings. (they are lame) Red wheels are gay.
